Typing Kanji.. help!!

Ok i need a little help typing in kanji in FFXI. From what I understand... if i hit 'alt ~' it changes the input to japanese. That part works fine for me. Now to type in correct kanji using 'alt ~', you must use romaji right? For instance... to type totetote (very strong in romaji) in kanji i must hit alt ~, then type totetote correct? It comes out like this

Now i know that is correct... because those are the symbols that get displayed when you scan a really hard monster. However, i cant seem to type anything else correctly!! For example.. the translation sheet i have printed says that senshi is the correct romaji for warrior. When i type that, it comes out like this

��

That is NOT the way warrior appears in the moghouse... so i know its not right. What am I doing wrong? Is the romaji incorrect, or am i going about it wrong? Please help, because its very hard to get into a PT without knowing kanji.. and im too scared to type anything because i think its wrong! Thanks in advance to whoever can help me..

[edit] Maybe im just going about this COMPLETELY wrong... if anyone could let me know? :sweat:

Press the space bar to convert the characters to kanji. Pressing multiple times will cycle through different possible kanji conversions.

If it works like the standard Windows IME, you may be able to do different conversions using the functions keys (this is not tested under FFXI):

F6 --> Hiragana
F7 --> Katakana (zenkaku)
F8 --> Katakana (hankaku)
F9 --> Romaji (but using non standard ASCII chars. do not use...)
F10 --> Romaji (same as no IME)

Note that it may be difficult for you to write the kanjis you want if you don't know much japanese. For example, to get �� (Tokyo), you must not type �Ƃ�� (tokyo) but �Ƃ��傤 (toukyou)...
