Ever since I downloaded the new POL patch on 2-17, I cannot seem to connect to POL at all. I keep getting this error. I am using a D-Link DI-604 broadband router, and I've tried every suggestion I've found on what ports to open. I even set the firewall options to allow EVERY packet to travel freely.. nothing is working. I've even reinstalled POL completely, and I'm still having the same problems. After I wake up, I'm going to give POL customer service a call and see what the techs have to say about it.
I'm sure there's plenty of people having the same problems all of a sudden, because I've seen a good number of posts about this.. but noone seems to know a final solution to our problems. Any more suggestions would be greatly appreciated. We'd love to return to this great game as soon as possible. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 02-18-2004, 11:12 AM | #2 (permalink) | | Waka Laka~:Mod: Super Moderator Join Date: Jan 2003 Location: Austin, Tx. If this fixes the problem then you can definitavly say its the Router problem, otherwise POL may just ask you to contact D-Link customer service and blame it on the router. ~No song is good without... Oh, cake, Yum!!~

No dice. Only other idea I could have come up with is that I used to run a firewall, but I don't anymore. And even if it -was- running in the background unknowingly, the service subscription is up, so it couldn't be stopping any traffic anyways. This definitely seems to be a POL problem. But what doesn't make sense is that I reinstalled POL and it still doesn't want to communicate. Something happened on my computer when POL was updating that caused a communication error permanantly (until I find a solution, of course). | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 02-18-2004, 06:25 PM | #4 (permalink) | | Junior Member Join Date: Nov 2003 Posts: 1 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 0 Thanked 0x in 0 Posts Gil: 24 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 24 Donate | I have the same probleme and now i have reinstall themand now that made the same message but I can't d/l the patch. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 02-19-2004, 09:30 AM | #5 (permalink) | | Junior Member Join Date: Feb 2004 Posts: 1 Style: Dark - Version 5 Thanks: 0 Thanked 0x in 0 Posts Gil: 18 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 18 Donate | Pol-1160 and Pol-2054 I have also been having this problem since the upgrade. I have called tech support for both PlayOnline and my wireless internet provider. I have tried everything - disabled my firewall - found that I do not have a router on my end - and am trying to get the internet provider to make sure all their ports required on the tower are open. Last night I thought it was fixed. Managed to get on for two hours late last night. Darned if it dosn't work again this morning. I don't feel this is a problem on my computer - but I could be wrong. What a pain!
If you find any solutions please let me know!
Regards,

For courtesy reasons, I figured I'd post telling my own solution. I was running a copy of Norton Internet Security 2003. As of Feb 20, 2004, my subscription to this program has ended. However, I started having functionality issues with it since around the 10th. Because of this, I just used msconfig to disable the startup and the services used by this program. Unknowingly, this didn't completely stop the port blocking caused by the firewall. When the subscription was finally up, the program no longer did any automatic port settings anymore but still blocked some of them. (Flaw by Norton?). After completely uninstalling this program, all of my internet problems are gone.
Not sure if any of this helps someone else out there, but hopefully it will. Good luck to you guys! | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 02-23-2004, 03:02 PM | #7 (permalink) | | Junior Member Join Date: Aug 2003 Location: Washington Posts: 158 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 0 Thanked 0x in 0 Posts Gil: 811 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 811 Donate | I was playing for a few hours, and then it dumped me. T.T Nothing I do lets me back on. I'm wondering if the problem isn't with POL 'cause nothing is up. Not the site, the webcam, nothing. It's like they've just dissapeared off the internet.
And I don't have Norton on my computer. I LOVE ramen most!
I saw this in Lakai's avy, and I had to have it. :D
