Going from JP Client to US Client

I currently have the JP Client without the expansion. I want to switch to the US version with my current character. If I install the US client and register the US expansion will I be able to have access to the Expansion areas / jobs with my current character?

Very concerned as the JP expansion is very hard to find TT.

Yes, since if you buy the NA client, you will be paying for the expansion. Many of the users that I know switch between the JP and NA client on a regular basis. I belive though that you must install the NA client in a new directory and not on top of the JP client.
