to see if this will help
I'll be more specific...

Whenever i put the first cd in it won't automatically run it's self. So i go and try to open setup.eve but it freezes up on me if i do. I tried doing what advice on the PlayOnnline veiwer says and upgraded all my drive but that didn't help. I tried to copy all the files onto the computer but it won't let me copy the data1 folder. I even tried making a new data1 folder and copying the things seperatly and that wouldn't work...

If anyone knows whats wrong or what to do or can help at all, please tell me.

I had the same problem.

You need to do one of two things;

First some small background. (shamelessly stolen from an outdated thread here, very relevant info)

The reason you get this error is because Square overburned their CD in an attempt to squish the amount of information from 5 discs to 4. Because of the excessive data on the first CD, some CD drives are not able to read all of the data.

The two solutions I know of are:

1.) Call up Square with the tech number provided and tell them what's happening. They'll direct you to a site where you can manually download the CD files via FTP, and all should be well.

The thing with this solution is generally the long amount of time to wait between disc download and installs.. Generally I think the second solution is easier.

2.) Go into My Computer and right click then explore your CD rom drive.

Try to copy each file individually into a new folder on your desktop, the name does not matter. You should be able to get most of the files, specifically the data1.cab file. Any other files you can get are great, but generally if you can get the file mentioned it will go alot quicker, as this is the main install file with the huge amount of data on it.

Now, somewhere along the line you should get an error that says something like "unable to read cycle, or cycle invalid." Write down the name of this file on a pad of paper and keep it handy.

Continue to put in each of the 4 install CD's, and place all the files into the same folder, continuing the process of writing down any files that give you errors. The only two files I had problems with were setup.exe and Final Fantasy XI.msi, and I'm presuming because they are the files that were crammed into the end of the track beyond what my drive can read.

Anyway to further instructions.

That pad of paper you have? What you get to do, is ask around for people who may have these files and are willing to send them to you via means of FTP, IM programs, or IRC. Once you get these files, place them into the same folder you've been putting everything into. Once everything is in that folder, if you did it correctly, you simply double click setup.exe and it should install automatically for you.

Hope this helped,

Thott

I did the thing you suggested Damastas, and I can't get the data2 file on disc 2 to copy and paste over. I start to paste it but when it's done it says there was an error. And the data2 file is huuuuge.. Anyway I can get it from somewhere else?

Hmm.. can't get the really large Data.cab file to copy? If so that could be a problem. ;_;

Do you have access to a friend's computer, or someone elses computer in your house that has a CD burner? Something that one of my friends did to get his working was try to load the CD up on someone elses comp.. sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't; anyhow, if it does load up on their comp then you should copy the data file you need to their desktop, then have them burn it onto a CD.

If you can get that done, place it in the folder like I said and it should work fine.
