here are my system specs. i need to know if i ought to revert my graphics drivers back even further than the suggested 88.13 for nvidia that it says to on the official FFXI website.
i have installed and reinstalled POL and FFXI but not the 2 expacs Chains and rise. that couldn't be it could it. I too, am having problems with black screen of death, and have for sometime now. It seems that about 90% of the time the game will just come up a black screen right after I try to log in a character. The other 10%, the game logs me in successfully and FF XI runs like a dream. There was a new update for Directx that was released on the 9th or 10th, I wou.d advise updating that. One thing that may be of interest here, alot of times, if you have installed a new software firewall, you have to set to to allow FFXI to accept incoming connections, if you have not done so, I had this problem after I installed a new firewall a couple days ago, I would also check that. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 10-20-2006, 08:29 AM | #36 (permalink) | | FFXIWiki'er FFXIWiki Team Join Date: Sep 2006 Posts: 1,573 Style: Light - Version 6 My Mood: Thanks: 102 Thanked 39x in 30 Posts Gil: 11,238 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 11,238 Donate | Re: Video Card and Screen Problems thread. Hi all
Frustating problem with my graphics card. I bought a new 9800 Pro just for this game, and everytime i play it it crashes at some point.
Right, first off, computer specs:
Windows XP Pro SP2
Athon XP 2800+
1 GB Ram
No viruses, spyware, etc etc. PC runs perfectkly well otherwise.
Troubleshooting:
Checked for heat issues - (fan into side of case, HSF on Card feel only warm.
Driver, from latest to 3 release before
AA, AF, etc turn up and down
FFXI Config low setting/high settings, no difference.
Replaced graphics card
I really dont think its heat, as normally it'lll crash after aprox 30m mins, then wont crash at all for the rest of the night or maybe once more hours later. If it were heat it would be crashing all the time.
WIndows patched up to date.
Old ATI 9200SE plays on low res no problem.
Im stuck as to what to try next....seemingly everything has been tried?
No pop-up programs installed, RDP ans TS are disabled. Event logs are blank.
I just reboot, and play again but if i dont need to explain the annoyances of doing something and then just crashing mid game! I have died several times due to this!
Thanks... | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 10-20-2006, 08:33 AM | #37 (permalink) | | anti-spam Super Moderator Join Date: Jan 2004 Posts: 5,562 Style: Dark - Version 5 My Mood: Thanks: 21 Thanked 63x in 58 Posts Gil: 21,784 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 21,784 Donate | Re: Video Card and Screen Problems thread. hongman, when you installed your new card, did you make sure to uninstall the old drivers first? also, the catalyst drivers now require .NET Framework to be installed so make sure that (version 2) is installed before anything else. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 10-20-2006, 08:50 AM | #38 (permalink) | | Altanaの戦士 Keeper of Knowledge Join Date: May 2006 Location: Fenrir Server Posts: 2,381 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 109 Thanked 193x in 135 Posts Gil: 58 Bank: 18,800 Total Gil: 18,858 Donate | Re: Video Card and Screen Problems thread. You should also check your sound card and drivers, in all my time dealing with PC the sound card is the one that causes most of the troubles. It could create a driver or an IRQ confilct.
If you are using a PCI sound card you can take it off and then play the game without sound and see if the game still crashes, if it's onboard just disable it. Sanctuary of Zi'tah! Just thought Id update, nothing worked so Iv stuck my old stable 9200SE in for now, getting refund on 9800Pro.
Instead I have just ordered a new mobo (Gigabyte GA-K8NF9-RH), an AMD Athlon64 X2 Dual Core 4600+, another 1GB Ram and the Radeon X1300Pro.
Hopefully that should run the game a bit better :p
What do ya'll think? HELP... I'm running into a different problem than most people. Ok, I've read through most of these threads about problems, but never came up with any senerio that sounded something like this.... Terminated as error occured in Final Fantasy XI. Failed to recognize Hardware TnL.
Please check that this computer has the required specifications to run Final Fantsay XI. (-1). .....
I just got the game, loaded all the stuff, the updates from the network. yadah yadah. go to enter the game, and it goes to full screen, then comes back down to a smaller screen and tells me the message above. I've uninstalled the whole thing, and reinstalled it, but still says the same thing. As far as I know, I have all the requirements. my computer is a HP pavillion, about 2 years old. Possibly, it's the graphics card, but I have 64 mb of ram for the graphics card, and the minimum requirements are 32.... so it should run it, but perhaps being it's a generic one that came with it, it wont. I dunno. The graphics card seems to be most people's problems though. HELP! I have no money though, so i dont want to think about getting a new one if it's definitely not the graphics card. I can play the Sims 2 and it works fine, but can Lag a bit.
I tried to go through that troubleshooting list that was listed above, and did what I could. Some of them I dont know how to fix. PLEASE, my friend Tommy is begging me to play this with him, and I have the one month free! HELP me before it runs out!

Thank you, I googled "Hardware TnL" and came up with a forum posting, this is what the person said in reguards to "Help to Hardware TnL" said: "That means that you don't have a good enough graphics card or chip, depending on whether you use a pc or laptop. What you probably have is a GME card/chip, which supports standard 3D graphics. However, FFXI requires that you have an AGP card/chip. But the problem is that you can't always just switch; a whole new motherboard might be required if your current one isn't compatible with AGP cards/chips. I personally have a laptop, which is inconvenient, since i need a better motherboard to support such chips. My type of motherboard is PCI, which doesn't support that great of chips. However, I heard from my friend that there was one chip which was compatible with PCI motherboards and FFXI. Hope this was of help. " - Steven DaLuna
And the first thread to this problem was created in Feb of 2003. So.. apparently alot of people have this problem. go figure. lol j/k. So how do I find out if my motherboard is compatible with a new graphics card? | | ::Quote Selected:: | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | All times are GMT -8.
