Sadly, the one bad thing about Windows machines, especially Win2K, Win98, Win95, and WinME, is that these machines, no matter how much you try to shut off services and close off ports, there are some you will
almost never be able to "close" to the point where you are safe.
Most people do not know what to kill to shut off all the ports, and in some cases, most people do not
want to kill off certain ports, like for file sharing and such. And that is an inherent problem.
I believe it is worth it to
take the time to properly configure a firewall, than to have to fix and/or format the computer because of a virus, worm, or the like.
