FFXI Port Routing
Hey there, I'm having some trouble with getting my ports routed for this game, if you could help me out a lot, that would be great. I know it's probably not a likely chance I could be helped, I have the port numbers and everything, I just dont know how to do it on my stupid router. I have this for a router http://www.netgear.com/products/pro...rodID=136&view=
It would probably be easier if you contacted me through AIM to help me. If you can't help me, thanks for your reading time anyways.

your link does not work....

I guess your router has a DMZ setting
set the DMZ to to your "FFXI machine". And it should work with out problem (router wise)

Danger: Setting your comptuer to sit in the DMZ means that anyone may be able to connect to your computer. It is a SECURITY risk for the computer as you become un-protected and vulnerable to internet attacks. This should be done as a last resort.

Try using port triggering or port forwarding first.

Please read this post to figure how to configure your router:

as long as you got no services listening on any port off your DMZ machine, no one can get into your computer. Such as HTTP, FTP, Telnet, etc.

My old rounter doesn't support range ports forwarding, and I have no choice to forward all undefined port to my PS2. And I don't think some one will be attacking PS2, since there's no information that important to them.

Sadly, the one bad thing about Windows machines, especially Win2K, Win98, Win95, and WinME, is that these machines, no matter how much you try to shut off services and close off ports, there are some you will almost never be able to "close" to the point where you are safe.

Most people do not know what to kill to shut off all the ports, and in some cases, most people do not want to kill off certain ports, like for file sharing and such. And that is an inherent problem.

I believe it is worth it to take the time to properly configure a firewall, than to have to fix and/or format the computer because of a virus, worm, or the like.
