For 150$, you should get a Radeon 9600 Pro, which is way faster than a FX 5200, and fully DX9 compatible (the FX-series from nVidia is horribly slow with pure DX9 games).

The GeForce 4MX is nothing more than a beefed up GeForce 2 card, it doesn't even feature DX8.1 functions. An old GeForce 3 TI300 would still be better than this.

AGP has been a standard ever since the Pentium 2 series, so I doubt that he has a PCI-card A PC like this would never be able to run FFXI.

Also a very good card would be a Geforce 4 ti 4200. They are pretty old but they are better than the fx 5200. They should only be about 150 now.

Horrible? This guy said 150 max.. don't tell him to spend 50 bux more than his Max, that's just a horrible suggestion. I'll second the 9600Pro suggestion.. :D

Um and yes your suggestion is horrible too considering you can get a 9600 pro 128mb for $82 with shipping if you know where to look. If you want to spend only $150 you can get the radeon 9600xt 128mb for that price which would probably be your best bet which you will notice a HUGE! performance increase over the 9600 pro but i would still recommend putting the extra $50 and getting the 256 mb version as you will need this for upcoming games.

People have been saying you'll need the 256 meg versions for "upcoming games" for quite some time.

So far, you never do. It seems that the extra memory is never used. I'm not sure if the games don't need it or its programmers not taking advantage of it.

By the time they'd be making use of the 256 meg of memory, the card would be outdated anyway and people will be saying you need the new super card with 256 meg of memory.

Processors and graphics cards are being upgraded too dang rapidly for me. There is never a point where you will buy what is the best today and have it still be good in a year, while you will usually pay a premium price.

Hmm..
forums.anandtech.com

Go to the For Sale/For Trade forums, and pick yourself up a 9600 Pro for 130-140.

Oh, BTW, if you're seeing a 9800 for that cheap, then its a SE, I would go with the 9600 Pro over a 9800SE.

Not really only maybe 10% tops if you have a lower end system or if you ever plan on upgrading your pc stay away from all SE models of any brand id also point to the 9600pro myself, becuse theres more hype than pure hardware power the gfx line, considering the money per money performance numbers dx and all that mumbojumbo.

If you can find a 9600p for your price its about the most unbeatble deal for the cash and a new Pc upgrades.
