FFXI reinstallation troubles

I recently had to reformat my hard drive and reinstalled WinXP. After getting all the latest drivers and updates for my system and installing and setting up JP in XP, I proceed to reinstall the JP FFXI client on my system as I have done before. Everything goes along smoothly... I install POL, input my existing account, patch POL, install FFXI + expansion, then patch that as well. However, once all that is done, when I go through POL to get to FFXI, right after I hit Play and get past the EULA or whatever, when the FFXI itself is supposed to load up, it never does. Instead the entire screen goes black and stays there. When I hit alt-ctrl-del to open task manager, it shows POL as running but FFXI as not responding. I've already reinstalled twice and gotten the exact same problem. Does anyone know what the problem could be? I really want to get FFXI back up ad running again.

I feel your pain. I can't really help you there. does any type of error popup? Or is it just frozen?

Nope, no error message at all, just a black screen.
