dinput8.dll / appcompat.txt error help!

i need help ! i really need help!

i installed ffxi on my pc , when i click on the playonline icon , there is this window error popup saying that playonline encountered a problem and needs to close and then ask me to send an error report msg to microsoft. the error signature says AppName: pol.exe , AppVer: 1.10.0.0 ModName: dinput8.dll , ModVer 5.1.2600.1106 , Offset 000147cf. The following files included in this report : C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER25.tmp.dir00\ap pcompat.txt

i tried installing the latest drivers for my gfx card and latest version of directx. i reformated my cpu but it doesnt helps. i updated windows also doesnt helps. this error only happens when i play certain games. one of the games is ffxi pc. i did dxdiag, but it never states any problem.

P4 2.8Ghz with HT
512 PC2700 DDR
120GB 7200rpm
ATI Radeon 9200 128MB
OS: WinXP Home
