Japanese language in the NA version? - Final Fantasy XI :: Dreams in Vana'diel :: Community

Hello, I have the NA version of FFXI, and I was wondering if anyone knows how, or if it's even possible, to type using Japanese characters in the game? I have the language bar set up, but I can't seem to get it to work in the game.

I'm curious about this too. I've looked in the book but can't find a thing about it.

I'd like to be able to type / read Japanese with my NA game. Is this possible?

yeah, i too am very interested in using hiragana/katanana/kanji etc. seems like we should beable to... the jp can type in our alphabet.

maybe they'll patch it later if we can't now? sure hope so.

Japanese keyboards frequently include Roman characters. It's a mess, really, a keyboard with extra shift keys and every key has four characters on it. I don't know how they type. I think since FFXI runs over windows, and uses some windows software to operate (I mean like the animated cursor) that maybe if you installed a Japanese language pack, and purchased a Japanese keyboard, you would be able to type in Japanese also.

Just a thought, if anyone has the energy to confirm I'd love to know.

You currently can not type Japanese on the English NA Client, I have yet to see a "hack" to make either the Japanese Client spit out English as its primary display or the English Client type Japanese.

The English client has had its Language Bar (needed for Japanese input) hard code disabled. If someone can find a way to trick the server to think the Japanese client is an English Client (so that on the Japanese Client, all the messages are in English), or the English client to display a language bar; everyone would appreciated it.

thats not entirely true

sometimes, the japanese language bar will show up on my NA client in the text input area. one time it showed up for some reason, i had no idea why it came up, but i couldnt press any of the buttons, it just sat there and did nothing..

I've seen the language bar as well, yet it isn't mentioned anywhere in the instructions (of course, square wouldn't want us to know that they're hard locking us out of a feature that has been in the game for over a year now...)

really, wtf is up with that anyways?
