Unlucky me... It won't let me go any higher than the defaults. Says my system cant handle it basically.

AMD 1600+, 512 lil more maybe ram (yeah its a wierd number), GeForce 4 ti 4600.

I don't get it, I'm pretty sure I should be able to do it. My comp runs the default settings at max just fine.

Are you sure you're adjusting the correct values? The game itself shouldn't comment on your choice of resolution, unless you input the wrong values to something not compatible with any machine known to man.

And as for everybody else asking which resolution your machine can handle, it's really up to yourselves to try. You can have the world's best video card, but the world's worst processor and other system components. The best thing you can do is try it at a moderate level and adjust based on your results.

It doesn't matter what resolution your moniter supports it just renders the background textures at a finer quality. If you really want to see this game at its full potential get a flat or a 19 inch lcd you jaw will drop
CRT Monitors, even cheap ones, will always provide better image quality. ALWAYS. Any real gamer knows this.

Yeah, I've edited the right values. I'm not new to the whole registry thing. Not that I've done editing, but I know its there and have looked through it.

And the game would comment because it checks ur performance. Just like it knows when u lose full screen mode.

AHA

Ok here are my SPECS:

INTEL P4 3.2

1 GIG RAM (CORSAIR E S)

P4C800 DELUXE E (ICH5R CHIPSET) <-----DONT KNOW IF I SPELLED THIS RIGHT BUT THATS IT

ATI 9800 XT

WIN XP PRO

BLAH BLAH, basically my comp OWNZ.....BUT, when i do the resolution thing. I still get a little lag!!! like it will move slowly as i walk, from time to time (BUT IT LOOKS AWESOME!).

I turned the settings on my 9800xt to HIGH PERFORMANCE, and the game looked just as good as when I put it on high reso.
EXCEPT: ther are some things that still could look a little bit finer, for example, the trees dont look as good as they did with the 2048 settings on. And their is a faint (BARELY NOTICIBLE) outlining on my char and other Char. Its very insignificant but was non-existant with the 2048 on.

My question is this: WHY THE FUDGESICLE is my comp running slightly slow with the 2048 on?? I built it this way to not have to deal with this problem!! Is it my connection?? I dont think it is becuz, WHEN I had my 9800xt on HIGH it was PRETTY and FAST!!!
But STILL the high reso is slightly better, and why not use it if I have my kind of system!!! Any ideas? Am I insane??

EDIT: Nevermind, i just read some of the earlier posts. I seems that this slows down even the best of cards. Because it takes up alot bandwidth and blah blah (dont know the rest).

But back to my 9800XT. Does anyone here use it (i am sure there are). Have you guys with the 9800xt put it on the max setting?
I run it on High with NO problems whatsoever. Should I move it to OPTIMAL? thx in advance!

I'm not sure what your asking exactly but I'll do my best to reply.

I'm running a Athlon XP 2700 OC'd to 2.4 GHZ with a Retail 9800 Pro and I run with 16x asf and 4x AA in 1280X1280. My game runs fine under this setting but I do notice lag with a large amount of players on screen. If I run under the default 1024X1024 this is improved.

if you tried running a bench like 3DMark03 it will own your comp @ High Qaulity Setting, you'd get like maybe 15fps on most of the tests . Whenever benchmarking a rule of thumb that i learned(at overclocking forums) is to put the slider for D3D and OpenGL to Optimal then restart, make sure VSync is off though , then run the benchmark and your score would be pheunominal

Just because you have the latest and greatest PC, it doesn't mean you'll get 60+ FPS on everything you play. Just turn down some of your settings in the game until it runs like you want it to. Turn down the texture quality, or the high res backgrounds. Whatever you feel like you can sacrifice and live without, try turning it off and see if it helps.

right click desktop>Properties>Settings>Advanced

your graphics card's settings will then come up. Go to the 3D tab then drag the Slider for Direct3D to Performance(the far left), then click the OpenGL button underneath Direct3D and drag that slider to Performance(the far left). Apply, then restart your comp manually, then re-run the benchmark and see
