sorry if this has been answered before, but can a radeon 9600 pro with 256 mb ram handle the 2048x2048 resolution without problems (meaning no lag at all) ? i'm buying a 3ghz, 1gb ram system and i'm not sure what graphic card to get thanks |

I have a 2.6 Ghz , 512 MB Ram, with a Radeon 9800 128MB, and there is noticeable graphic slowdown if you change the registry values any higher than they are already on mine. Perhaps it's just the way my computer's set up, or maybe I need more ram, or the extra 128 MB that the juicier Radeon gives, but it was just enough to cause me to turn it back down to normal (that is, high on everything in the normal configure options) It wasn't horrendous mind you, but I like it to be a balance between 'nice looking' and 'plays smooth'. It did look sweet though.

Hey guys I am running this game in 1600 x 1200 overlay and 1600 x 1600 background resolution. The visuals are BEAUTIFUL!!! Thanks so much to the person that started this topic. The computer I am running on is a Pentium III 1 Ghz/ 512 MB Ram/ Geforce 4 Ti 4600 I am kind of shocked to learn that my computer can handle such graphics without lag except when my character is in a sandstorm. Once again, to those who have not tried tweaking this, I suggest you to do so now. Now I enjoy the game even more! -EtRNaL |

By the way, compress the map thing in the configuration because it made a difference for me. How do I turn off weather effects? -etrnal |

I don't think I'd ever go nVidia again unless something real drastic happened internally at ATI. Within a span of about 6-9 months I had 2 GeForce's of mine crap out. Both of them due to the GPU fan breaking down on me. I've had a Radeon 9700 Pro now for most of the year now and it works perfect, not to mention blew my GF4 4600 out of the water at the time. I was kind of glad that card died once I put the Radeon in.

-= my results =- I have an overclocked amd rig. Athlon Xp 3200+ (2.4ghz) (200mhzbus) 512mb pc3700 ram (200mhz) 2-2-2-6 Western Digital 200gb SE Asus A7n8x deluxe v2 Ati Radeon 9700 I tried using the 2048x2048 and it looked simply amazing and was a vast improvement over the "regular high quality setting" in FFXI's config. But when I finally took my character to Valkrum Dunes and the wind was blowing, my White Mage was barely able to heal people on time due to the lag. Thus I was forced to turn down my settings, unfortunately. I tried 1600x1600 but there was a drop in frame rates which was enough for me to turn the graphics down even further. Now I'm at 1280x1024 and I couldn't be happier. I also turned FSAA 6x and Anisotropic Filtering to 16x and the game looks Great. I can handle auction halls smoothly, any type of weather and the game looks terrific. Thanks OP. | |

When you run the game on its max setting of 1024x768 but put the backround resolution to to the highest 2048x2048 does it srink the text and stuff. How are you able to read the writing and menues or does it just srink the backround scenery and stuff.

i had some problems with my 9600XT at 2048x2048 so i just lowered it 1600x1600 and it worked great. Although i had umm Atholon 2500+ Barton @ 1.8ghz 2x 256 dual channel PC2700 so maybe your should have worked idk to my eyes, i couldn't tell any difference in the looks btw |
