I should jus take my comp out back and shoot it

i got the game last week when it was first released, and have had almost now problems untill now. Earlier today i was playin, then logged off to eat and came back to get my level. Well when i logged back on i hit a lag spike. And then another, and another and another. now i cant play because it constently lags for 10 secs at a time. i know its not my internet, because when i tried the benchmark again, i hit 10 sec lag spikes there too. i know i am runnin bare min as far as a video card: G-Force 2 MX 400, and i am gettin a new one soon. probably a radeon 9700 all in wonder, but it ran fine before today. I have jus reformatted my computer, because of past virus problems. And i did find three drivers that dont work. they are:

Multimedia controller
Multimedia video controller
PCI simple comunications controller

All three are yelllow and have a "!" nexty to them. i have tryed to update them, but it says it cant or there isnt a more recent update. i have already re-installed my video card drivers, and tryed updating all other drivers, but still nothing. what now?
I am already addicted to this game, and really wanna play.

PS i have all my FFXI settings at a min, just as i have had from the start.

That is very strange.
Most likely it is your video card had to install a new one in a freinds system so he couldn't run FFXI. Since you are on line i doesn't sound like it is your NIC card. Hate to suggest this since it took most people a long time to load the game have you tried to reinstall the game itself may be a software problem instead of a hardware issue. If this doesn't help then it's sounds like it's time to spend some money on a video card. the one you wanted to purchase will work fine. I know this isn't much help hard to tell what kind of problem you're having without having the pc infront of me.

Well...its gone from bad to worse. i now log on and this is what happens: lag for 10 secs, 1 sec non lag, lag 10 secs, non lag for 1 sec. It takes 10-15 mins to log off now. i have tried everything for my drivers, they still dont work. And yes, i have reinstalled the program. I figure for now i am going to play tetra master untill my new card arrives. Any more ideas would be apreciated!

In order to help you, I need more information about your system. You are giving the vague specs that makes it almost impossible to help you. So:

-What mainboard-chipset do you have or, if you don't know the first, what is your mainboards manufacturer
-What processor do you have
-How much Ram on how many slots
-Soundcard
-Operating System
