problem with CD 1

i managed to install the playonline viewer np, but when i went to install final fantasy xi itself i received an error.

1611: Unable to extract the file

followed by

1628: Failed to complete installation

after talking to tech support through their phone # i was advised to copy the CD's to my hard drive, and then attempt installation.

the first CD was copying fine, then it hit a snag. i was able to get all the files from the first CD onto the hard drive, except for 'Final Fantasy XI.msi'. Every other file from every other CD(as well as the other files on CD1) copied without a problem.

i've tried copying it multiple times, only getting:

Data error(cyclic redundancy check)

i've tried it on 3 other CD-Rom drives from 2 other computers, i still wasn't able to get the file. After calling tech support again they ended up taking my phone # and saying they'd call me when they knew anything.

The only explanation i can think of is a faulty CD. as the playonline cd worked, as did rise of zilart(which told me to install FFXI first).

if anyone has any suggestions i'm open to them. But untill then i'd ask if anyone would be so kind as to PM their AIM name, or upload 'Final Fantasy XI.msi' from disc 1, so that i can download it or x-fer it from them.

the file is less than 14 megs, not exactly tiny, but no problem for me to download with Cable

AHH!!! Im not alone!!

I have the EXACT same problem. I installed POL, and registered, thinking that i wouldn't have any problems. and now it has my credit card info, and its using my 30 free trial days as we speak.

I tried extracting all files, but it took forever, and a few of them didn't work. Said something about MS-DOS or something.

I called tech support, and he directed me to a few secured sites, which eventually led to a download site of some sort. It had 2 files. ffxi1.zip, and ffxi2.zip.....he told me to DL and extract and use those to install. Well. I would have done that, except the fact that they were 700 MB each and were DLing slower than a 14.4k Connection!!!!!

SOMEONE PLEASE HELP US! IVE SPENT 5-6 HOURS STRIAGHT TRYING TO FORCE MY GAME TO INSTALL!!!

The problem with CDs 1, 2 and 4:


Squaresoft has an issue with overburning CDs... if you looked at the size of the total files on the CD, you'd notice, that the CD itself cannot hold that much information, This entails that Square made a mistake, 4 CDs instead of 5. Whomever needs this site for fixes on CDs 1, 2 and 4, E-mail me at Furinex@hotmail.com, I'll gladly send you all the site. I'll be home around 4:30pm EST.

if i have some sort of Data1.cab error is that the same thing u guys are getting?? if not is it my CD drive?? i think im still going to get a new cd drive so i install disks faster i hope
