ffxi and play online problems
here is the system

amd 2500 barton with a asus a7v8n deluxe mobo
512 meg paired ddr 400 mhz ram
40 gig western digital hdd 8 meg buffer
using the 3com built in nic on the mobo
ati radion 9600 tried this with 3.7 and 3.8 catilist drivers
also have a ps2 to usb converter from radio shack for a joystick


the game loads and runs smooth no matter what settings I put in for video but randomly after about 20 to 30 mins the game just shuts off to desktop no errors nothing tried to run at lowest setting same thing turned mip mapping on no change run at highest settings with everything maxed run smooth as butter but still dumpd after about 15 to 30 mins had this same setup for SWG (star wars) and it ran fine now star wars did load direct x 9a on the system that is the only thing I have not tried to change I have my monitor refresh rate over ridden to 60htz refresh anyone seen anything like this i am not lagging out just seems like play online just poofs

I would suggest running a burn in program like Sandra Sisoft is what its called with all the settings maxed and see if it does the same thing. Or go to the playonline and do the check HDD or whatever it is.. the one where it checks all the files.. other then that.. close background applications thats all I can suggest *shrugs*

also I am running xp pro with all the service packs forgot to mention that

I had this problem too. Very frustrating isn't it?

Had to do a lot of digging, but I finally found out that it's a problem with the controller config. Goto where you setup the gamepad (under Start > Programs > PlayOnline > Final Fantasy XI > Final Fantasy XI config), and make sure you don't have Force Feedback checked. I did, and once I unchecked it, I played for 4 hours with no shutdowns.
