Game locking up and Freezing

The middle of battles? Alright, then it's definently your video card. Well perhaps not definently but I'd bet a pretty penny or two on the fact that it is.

ok going back to my question about the sound card issue. What mother boards are you all using, as well as what sound card?

ok I have fixed the problem !

If you have Radeon card, go to display settings and click advance.
Look for Fast Write and disable it and the game will not freeze anymore.

O.o lol i put my geforce4 ti4400 back in and it does the same thing it am sure it is damn amd processor... also import game work fine with sound card so that is not it i forgat about that. ;p
I am gonna to give my computer back and pay a little more for the p4 processor if i still have problems, well i will just ... hmm i don't know what i will do probaly cry...:sweat:

also the game does not freeze up anymore it just goes to desktop without warning:mad:

i fixed the problem by updating my sound card driver, i really dont understand why. but hey! at least it works now! so far . . .

I have the same problem with my laptop, it tends to freeze after a while. I think it has to do with the AMD processors. I know that AMD's tend to run hotter than a P4 so I am thinking that the chips are just getting too hot.

I can't see it being my sound/video b/c I can sometimes play the game for 5-6 hours at a time. If it were sound/vid would'nt the conflict arise almost as soon as it tried to display something/play a sound?

Well, I hate to disprove you all, but it's not a problem with AMD, and it's not a problem with Radeon. I have a p4 3.06GHZ with HT, and a Geforce4 64mb, and I have the same problem. The most common occurence is when I try to cancel my rest.

I have the same problem, but it only frooze ingame once, while browsing the AH menus.
For me, it always freezes up in Windows, mainly when it has been idle for more than 4h...
I'll try to turn FastWrite off, run Windows Update, update all the drivers I can, and then if this keeps happening, I'll buy a new mobo..
Specs:

Athlon XP 3000+
DDR 1024 @ 333 Mhz Kingstom
Asus A7V333
ATI 9600 PRO 256

This appears to be so sort of "resource" problem. This also apears to be a problem cause by protocols that suppose "enchance" the performance of your PC. Apparent, FFXI Online seems to be very sensitive to when things in your computer not running smoothly or, in-sync. Protocols that are "forcing" information through the CPU, CPU/memory timings, small system speed discrepancies between certain hardware components.

Here is a list of things I tinkered with:

-Disable (APG) Fast Write in bios. <-This important to me.
-Might need to slow down your RAM timings in bios (for experts ONLY!)
-If you have overclocked any one ot two particular components that are out-of-specs or faster than your system speed, set it back to default.
-From control Panel, go the "Sound and Multimedia" properties, and lower the sampling conversion rate in the "Advance" section of "Playback" under the "Audio" tab.
-Disable Antivirus auto-updates (and if need to, disable auto-protect while playing the game)
-Disable any useless processes in your task manager.
-(Maybe) People with SB Live and Audigy go to your sound control panel and disable all the extras and special effects (ie: turn off sound effect enchancers, turn off EAX, etc.) Any extra "useless" stuff that will cause more work on CPU.
-Disable sound completely (last resort, may not always work)

The list of the things I did above was to address another common problem some people and I were having involving: random exits/crashes (usually w/o any warnings or error messages).

I'm playing Japanese PS2 Version

and I get the same problem as well...

It might not be the hardware nor the device driver (directX)

I think it is probably something else, like network setting, networkdelays, or some glinch with POL

I get crashed when I cast magic and active attack mode at same time.... (ie. use macro to case while use menu to active attack mode)

Mine ususally crashes when I'm running in a field somewhere. It never froze in the city or during a battle. Always when I'm running. I also got a new PS USB controller and it started freezing ever since I got that so.. it could be that. It froze once though when I opened the menu. I thought it was the network connection but it wasn't. I updated my GeForce Ti 4200 driver but still happened. I have an AMD 2000+ with an onboard sound card. Didn't try the sound card yet though. But I don't think that's what it is since last night I was fighting in the Dunes and there was lots going on and spells flowing and all kinds of noise and it didn't freeze. Now I think it's the ram because I got 256mb and only have like 80mb or less when I play FFXI and I have every processes that I can think of gone.
