| Junior Member | Installation problem: Dumping physical memory
During the installation of the actual of FFXI I encounter a problem. After installing for awhile the screen bilps and turns blue. ON this screen is the message, "Dumping physical memory." then the computer restarts. If I try installing it again it does it but MUCH slower, then eventually I get the blue screen of death again. I am running windows 2000 and my computer is sitting dandy proformance-wise. Anyone know what to do?

From what you described there are a lot of things that can cause that blue screen. Which it is will be hard to tell from the info you gave. The things I can think of to try first is: 1. Video Card (properly cooling?) 2. Video Drivers may need updated or have become corrupt 3. CPU fan or cooling system working? 4. Harddrive Diagnostics make sure it's spinning at the proper rate and doesn't have a high missread, these are indications of the harddrive possibly being defective. 5. OS running properly no missing or corrupt files? Try running a detailed chkdsk, if using NTFS partition make sure chkdsk is scanning the drive properly (Sometimes with NTFS partitions chkdsk will missread it or not work right) These are actually very recent things that happened to me to generate the blue screen that sounds like you got. There is also an slim posibilty that something with the BIOS version you have could be causing a device to not work properly and also generate that problem. |

Increase the size of your virtual memory (swap file). Start>Control Panel>Performance/Maintenance>System>Advanced>Performance (settings)>Advanced>Virtual Memory (change).

Or, you have 4 tons of conflicting spyware, adware and malware running on your system. go to www.lavasoftusa.com and download adaware and run it. This has helped several people I know.
