| Junior Member | FFXI randomly closes?
I've been having this problem that keeps happening, regardless of what I do to try and fix it. If I play FFXI for longer than say, 30 minutes, it'll just close itself without any warning. I've installed and uninstalled and reinstalled more times than I care to remember. In fact, I've spent more time installing than playing. Anyway, my computer is fairly up to date, I have a Radeon 9700 Pro video card, Pentium 4 2.oo GHz processor. 630-something megs of RAM, and the only thing I can thing of that I'm really lacking in is actual hard drive space. I have 28 gigs on this thing (right now anyway, I'll be adding a ton more soon) with only 3 gigs left. I'm not sure as to how I can fix FFXI from closing on me all the time, but if anyone can help me or point me in the right direction, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

I'm having this same problem, and it's seemed to have gotten worse. Before it would crash once or twice within an hour, and then I'd be good for the rest of the time I played. Now however, I just constantly crash. If it helps I have an ASUS P4P800, 2.4C P4, 1 gig of DDR PC2700, and a crappy GF4 MX440 (I got it basically for free, but I'm about to upgrade to a Radeon 9800...getting the other stuff I mentioned killed my cash flow).

I have the same issues. I've experimented with every setting for both the game and my video card. My system is as follows: 1gb DDR 2700 memory 1.2ghz processor Radeon 8500 64mb The game just intermittantly terminates and sends me back to the desktop. Ideas anyone? ‹S‰e

I figured out my problem before beta ended. It was the rumble feature on my PS2 controller converter. Some systems just don't like it, but as long as I have it turned off I'm fine. I 've haven't tried with the rumble on in retail though.

I called support and they said "you need to open some ports on your router" I thought, "yeah, uh-huh" but I did it and of course, no change. "Well, we don't support the Radeon 8500, you need to upgrade". My jaw dropped. So now I have to go out and spend $$$ on a new vid card (I'm in college, I'm always broke). It'd better work when I get one of the ones listed on thier site!!! ‹S‰e

I'm having this same problem. I sent an email to them earlier with all my specs and stuff and I'm waiting for a reply. I just want to play the game, that's all. |

There are lots of people having this problem. Reasons were: 1. A Gamepad-Driver that was not certified by Windows XP, so try without your Gamepad and you'll know 2. Fast-writes was turned on. You need to switch it off in the graphics-driver-settings 3. Too fast RAM-timings, you need to slow them down in your BIOS. Rememer the old settings, just in case it didn't work ------------------ I personally would not recommend onicage to buy a new graphics-card. It should work with the Radeon 8500 as well, since it is a DX 8.1-card and since it is basically a Radeon 9000. Badrock |

I am having a similar problem but have yet to find a solution. One thing that was a problem for some people was their video card was sharing the same IRQ as other devices. In XP and maybe 2k you go to device manager -> Computer and turn ACP to Standard PC.

This is a huge problem. I've been reading hundreds of other forums frmo other FF website with people having the same problem. Random Crashes. I have this problem, I was able to stop the crashing by disabling the sound in the FFXI config. Of course, by doing that, I have to play without sound. |

I'm using a cable/dsl router and had opened up the ports listed on the PlayOnline Support Site. That didn't work. However, when I put myself on the DMZ for the router (this bypasses the router as though I was directly on the connection) everything worked great. I played for a good 3-4 hours yesterday with NO PROBLEMS!!! Hope this helps you guys. ‹S‰e
