| To be useable in the PS2 for games, the HDD must reply to a special command that identify it as a SONY HDD. Other HDDs are not useable.
You must purchase a SONY HDD. They are being sold in Japan now as replacement part. So it is possible to get a HDD. You still need the HDD Utility disc, which will format and install the HDD browser software. So you better wait for the NA version come out ... It won't be long, I am sure.
The japanese replacement HDD sells for 9100 Yen... (A bit expensive, don't you think ?)
I had already the opportunity to check my japanese HDD working on my US PS2 and it works flawlessly, provided you format it with the Utility disc which came with the FFXI Beta version. (The US utility disc is not a beta btw ...)  Mariane (HUM_f/Fenrir)
