Serious connection problem

I got my import one week ago and I still haven't been able to play it. I have the a Japanese ps2 model (10000) and an external HDD unit. Ok, here are the details of my problem. I installed the HDD perfectly, but when I got to the PO instalation, I can't pass the connection test! I get the following error message:

I use a cable modem with Time Warner and my ISP is AOL. I also have a linksys router. Now, I have no clue what the problem is. I've had friens tell me about the error message, I've checked, everthing seems fine. Is it my ISP? If anyone can help me, I'd be gladly thankful.
