Problem with character creation in PC Beta
Hey guys, this is my first post here. I'm posting because I'm having a problem with my FFXI PC Beta installation. I'm trying to create a second character. I've got a new content ID and everything, and when I click "Create Character", the screen fades to black, then I crash to desktop. I've tried using my custom settings in the FFXI Config program, and the defaults. This happened when I created my first character, too, but I restarted my computer, and it worked. It didn't work this time.

My computer is a Pentium 4 1.80 GHz, I have 1024 MB of 266 MHz DDR RAM, and a Sapphire Radeon 9000 128 MB. I'm using DirectX version 8.1b (I've heard too many horror stories about DirectX 9), I'm running the latest version of the ATi Control Panel and the Catalyst 3.1 drivers (Most stable version, from what I've heard.)

Here is what I got from the system info section of the POL config:

Have you tried calling Square-Enix?
If you are encountering problems with the beta then you should let them know. Often they are not only testing the game but seeing what kind of problems users may encounter (installations, set up etc). Hopefully they will have your problem fixed.

Good luck!

It seems to have magically, randomly, worked, but I'll still report it. Thanks.

I think Mithrankittycat posted here about that before ... It seems to be a issue with the FFXI opening movie being disabled at the configuration menu ....

Quite weird btw ....

i had just currently had this problem which did not appear till i had my radeon9600pro. my solution was to enable hardware mouse cusor o.O i thought it strange at first how that would effect it (first i tried the enable open movie but that didnt work) i guess dependant on the nature of the problem (whats specificly causing it) it depends on teh solution XD.

any how im glad im able to create charecters again ^_^
