Help! Error FFXI-4001 Please! - Final Fantasy XI :: Dreams in Vana'diel :: Community

I just started playing this game today. I have had no problems for about 4 hours straight. Now I am getting an FFXI-4001 error over and over again. It starts with a red icon next to my name (above the character) and soon after I am disconnected from the game and play online. What is going on?

This happened to me once ... Seems like faulty network connection. You are booted off if the network isn't fast enough to keep the data flow steadly. Even if it's a DSL or cable, sometimes there is situations it can't keep the latency and you get a red icon, then the character sits and logout automatically.
Sometimes it's so bad the character just disappear and you get a message with error FFXI-512.

I also got into situations I could only talk but do nothing else. Since I'm a support character (WHM) it's the "end" for me when it happens.

To fix it: Close FFXI, close POL and then start over.
If it fails, turn the PC off and go do something else. You can't really help it. A good idea might be changing the ISP.

Remember to use the correct logout command to quit FFXI and POL !

I got this error after it sits in the 'Now loading' screen for about 5 minutes, than times out and gives the error to me. I can't seem to fix it, ive tried re-installing POL and FFXI too. Nothing works. Any help would be appreciated.

I presume you're having trouble with your internet connection.

If you look the Square-Enix page for FFXI you will notice it requires some TCP ports open for the proper operation of the POL software and the game itself.

Please check the information on the site.
Also log in on the official beta BBS and report your problem.
As I am a import player, I can't help much with beta issues.

Now that the US release is out I hope this problem would be fixed. I time out when I exit between the city & the fighting grounds. It's really depressing.
