Why cant I type JP in FFXI?!

I can view JP on my PC and in website...i can even type JP in any type of typing program(ex, Notepad, MSword,Wordperfect., etc...) But the only thing i can do it type in JP while playing FFXI...when i change it from US, to JP like the guide shows it, icrap like this comes up : ???h???ld???. Does anyone know what i can do to fix this...i

Make sure the JP input Support for Non-Unicode Programs is active...

check your Control Panel -> Regional/Language Settings -> Advanced Settings (for JP IME)
