SA, how is Taru monk? I've been going between RDM Taru and Monk Elvaan, but this may help me make my decision =/

Often alot of times people recommend not using a taru as anything else but a mage, but i say be what you wanna be. Of course, i've never been a big fan of red mages. I really really think you can only do one or the other. Red mages can do melee battle, and can do both white and black magic, and i just think it gets in the way. When you're in a party, you're either one of the melee people up front taking the blows, while the mages stay in the back and cast spells. Whenever the monster goes towards one of the mages, one of the warriors does taunt on them to lure em away. Red mage could do both, it could be up front, and in back, but either way i dont think it does it's job effectively enough. Only way I feel fine having a red mage in the group is if we also have a white mage.

I'm not opposed to warrior types with Tarus, I was just wondering how it worked out in her case. Also, there are a few reasons I want to be RDM: First of all, I'm almost always a healer in everything. I'm trying to break away from it, little by little ![]() Also, for when I'm soloing I think it'll be useful to have both magics and meele capabilities. I also like having lots to do during battle. I'm used to playing healers in games where I was also an important attacker, so I'm sort of used to it. I realize that's not what most PTs are looking for, just the way I like to play I know it wont be easy, but I like that

yeah, i thought the same way, i was originally thinking i could mix warrior and whm as a sub job, but i realized that it didnt work out at all. I sorta feel like a red mage is the same thing. Usually a PT is necessary. Im sure it's helpful in the beginning where you need to solo for the first 10 levels or so, but after that, i cant get anywhere without a PT. During battles, it's too hard to do both at the same time when you're solo. When you're fighting a monster, you wanna kill it fast, but you also wanna stay alive and get good exp from the battle. They make it that when you're soloing, monsters that you get good exp from are too hard to battle alone. You cant move, attack, or be attacked while casting a spell. Thats why mages stay in the back row during battles, they dont wanna get hit, or it stops the spell from charging, and some spells take a while to do. Even cure 1 can take a bit too long if you dont do it at the right time, and that one can only give you 20 hp back, some monsters can hit and take it away right away. It's sorta good to have the healing to use after the battle, but you can always just make your character rest, and your HP comes back slowly. I'm not trying to make you not choose red mage or anything, im just telling ya that is the way things are made in the game. It's not impossible, but i think it'll be alot more time consuming. I'd go with the monk, I personally think monks are fun. I like their style.

I see what you're saying and agree, I look forward to a challenge, even if finding pts will be harder. And I agree also about the monk's style, I think they rock ^_^

Well then godspeed to ya I dont think you'll ever see me trying red mage anytime soon though, heh. Right now i've been working on multipul jobs. My main job is a warrior at lv23 right now, using monk as my sub, only got that up to lv10, need to work on it somemore. But in the past few days i've been working on leveling up my white mage and black mage, both are around lv9, i switch back and forth from main to sub between them. Maybe you should try monk as a sub for your red mage, im not sure how that would work out, but it might help.

My only issue is this: Monk is really the only meele class I'm interested in, but I just think it'd look so much cooler coming from an Elvaan than a Taru...wouldn't mind being a mage Elvaan either, but something about those Tarus.....AHHH ><;
