Strange Linkshell Icon

So, I was hunkered down in the Goldsmith's guild the other day, working on my brass scales, and noticed a mithra with a rather odd looking linkshell icon, like i'd never seen before. I quickly snapped a few screenshots. Any info about it is gladly welcome, as all she would tell me in response to my asking "What is the symbol next to your name?"

I'm curious about this as well. Are we even really sure it's actually a linkshell icon? And not something else?

I was thinking maybe this is a mod, but in that case, you'd have to have the same mod in place to even see it.

This has truly peaked my curiousity.

It is a member of the "media". All journalists & such registered through S-E have that symbol next to their name

Speaking of all the nice little icons by peoples names does anyone have a list of all the different ones that exist in the game? I know most of the ones are just linkshells or bazaars but I'm sure theres more

A member of the media? As in in-game media (Vana'diel Journal), or general media (Game Informer, IGN, Gamespot, etc.)?

And I agree with ban; we should put together a database of all the different symbols next to people's names. Or just take a screenshot of the linkshell icon selection screen.

Its a member of square or the media. They are the only ones who use that ICON.

You should have known what that icon meant Odude. All kinds of media people ran around with that icon at the end of Beta. There were only about 100 different members of the media given all the nicest high level equipment to run around in while covering the end of FFXI NA Beta.

That or I could be assuming you spent the last week or two in Beta.

It's not really media,There was an explanation about them given to me by a GM...She called them "Trial characters" They are characters square created for online demos of the game that can be played at conventions...like E3,Comicon...things like that,Media people actually have their own accounts.

POL used to have a page that listed what each icon meant, but it seems that they have taken it down......
