I need a mentor

Hey everyone. I have seen on the forums here people talking about mentors. In game I talked to some NPC who allowed you to become one apparently if you met the requirements. I am new to the game and would like to meet a mentor who has some patience and wants to show me the ropes. I am currently a level 10 Hume monk with no idea what I want to do with this character in the long run. I have aquired about 6 quests and 1 mission so far but have completed none of them because I just have trouble remembering who is who and where I need to go with what, when, and which materials I am supposed to find yadda yadda yadda. It's just a lot to take in. I reside on the Asura server and started in Windurst. Usually I am free alllll day wednesday until about 5pm eastern time (I play basketball every week at that time) and then saturday afternoons until sunday night. Any other day I might or might not be on after 4pm depending on how work goes. So, with that all said I hope someone would like to spend some time just getting me acclimated to the game and beginner missions. I don't want gil or items but just some suggestions on what I should search for, what items to keep and which to ditch at the npc and so on. Thanks up front. Oh btw I play on 360 if that makes a difference.

Re: I need a mentor

Can't really help you directly since I'm not in Asura, but feel free to hit me up on AIM or MSN if you want someone else to turn to when you have questions. I wouldn't mind.

Re: I need a mentor

People put there mentor flag up in game. Theres an option ot do a mentor search, think its in the helpdesk but not sure as Ive never done it, Someone that has access to the game right now have a look and post how one does it. But theres always the forums to help with any questions, theres a lot of good stuff on here

Re: I need a mentor

The mentor search is in the helpdesk section of the menu. Unfortunately I'm not on your server, But I do look after Remoras newbies when I can with my flag up. Also if you're serious about the game you might consider a notepad near to your computer so you can write down things you're doing at the time. Since I started playing I've lost count how many lists I made and I have 3 small notebooks beside me with random scribbles in it.

Re: I need a mentor

I live on Asura and I tend to log on every evening after 8pm EDT (or EST, when applicable). I'd be happy to provide advice/assistance, heck, even be a duo partner, if I'm available.

Please don't hesitate to contact me in-game (named Truece) if you have questions.

Re: I need a mentor

Thanks for all the replies and advice everyone. And to Truece, unfortunately for me, my work causes me to head to bed early so most evenings I'm in bed by 8:30 or 9 pm. However, tuesday nights as well as saturday nights I can stay up and not hate myself for lack of sleep in the morning. I will try to send you a message some time. Instead of /say it would be /say Truece then whatever it is I want to write? Also, where is the helpdesk exactly? My character name is Zagato so if you are ever bored and want to see if I am on just send me a message and I will do my best to figure out how to get back to you. By the way, I must say these forum users are much nicer than a few of the others I have been a member of.

Oops, helpdesk is in the menu screens somewhere. Shouldn't be a problem to find then.

Re: I need a hero

Tells are handled by "/tell [name] [message]", so it would be:

/t Truece Hey, it's Lantis from FFXIO, I was wondering if you could....

or whatever. /say is a chat used in your direct area, so if you tried "/s Truece blah blah blah" your chat log (and that of anyone else in the immediate area) would show up with "[Character]: Truece blah blah blah". /shout is similar to /say, but has a wider area, different default color, and in most cases is considered an annoyance. Then there's /party, which allows you to communicate with your party members, no matter the distance, and /linkshell, which allows you to communicate with members of your linkshell (a guild-like group) in the same manner as /party, although you need a linkpearl in your inventory to do so.
