Haste on Tanks

I'm not entirely clear on why Haste on Tanks is so crucial. I keep seeing it touted as an absolute necessity but the reasons behind it are cloudy.

So far I've come up with:
* They hit faster, deal more damage, build more hate
* Reduce recast timers for spell spamage to increase hate and survivability(shadows)

Was there anything else to it?

Pretty much.

It's not just that Haste on the tank make him better at holding hate, it's also that hasting the DDs (which is something you want to do) and NOT the tank makes his life even harder.

Those are some very crucial reasons to cast Haste on tanks. For plds, its also to help get cures off quicker. It's very important to keep haste up on the tank. As a rdm, its a very easy thing to do once you get refresh. Every time you cast refresh on the pld just make sure to haste him too. If you have a nin then every time you cast refresh on yourself make sure to cast on the nin. You'll keep the cycle going with no problem and they'll never pester you for haste again!

Alright cool. Just wanted to make sure I understood why it was important. No good to do it without knowing the reason, else you're just a mimic and can't step up your game.

FTFY. "Quicker" is a tad misleading, as Haste doesn't speed up the casting of cures but reduces the recast timers. I know nitpicking here but just thought it prudent :3

Both your initial thoughts are right especially when you notice haste is the most important single star for most melee jobs in most circumstances behind only accuracy.

Faster hits becomes more damage, lower recasts becomes more casts and therefore hate/shadows/damage.

TGM hit the nail on the head with that cycle. It gets more fun when you use Composure and/or remit the tank party of an alliance but once you get used to it your parties will love you.

Oh any DDs who want haste when you are busy or short on Mpoline should be told where to go, if they 'need' it doing just DD they are too weak to be worthwhile.

Also if the tank is /NIN, it improves recast time for Utsusemi.

It should be noted, however, if they're not tanking, they can take a number and wait their turn.
