Look, I love my parents. I love that they play this game. It's neat. But my god, sometimes they make me crazy.

My father is a 75 PLD, WHM, DNC, and DRG. He never plays the former two anymore, but often switches between DNC and DRG. His gear is mostly ok, though I can't convince the man to gear swap at all though I've been making progress in that area. He's not a terrible player, he just isn't much of one for reading up on strategy, and usually prefers that I do it for him. He's a competent crafter and money maker, so I know he has a few million gil (which he is tight as hell with, but whatever, that's his call).

My mother is a 75 WHM, MNK, and almost SAM. She is a sweet lady. Don't get me wrong. But the other day I went skilling/latent breaking with her (she just got Asuran Fists) and she was wearing full MNK relic, a tiger stole, MP earrings, and assorted other embarassing gear. I wouldn't be surprised if she had shown up on BGs "lolgear" thread. She spends most of her time gardening/crafting/fishing/farming, so she's ok on money. She just doesn't know what to spend it on.

Can you guys help me help them? What are some cheap/easy gear suggestions to help to make them just a little bit less ridiculous in their chosen jobs? Sure, I can't necessarily help their gameplay (though they aren't actually too bad at that - they get shit done, at least), but I can certainly help their stats.

What I'm looking for are suggestions for AH buyable MNK, SAM and DNC gear, as well as achievable Rare/Ex gear for said jobs that doesn't require an alliance or access to Sea (their CoP static stalled out, as did mine, but we're working on it).

Now he is leveling BRD and she's leveling DRG, but I'll worry about those hurdles when I get to them. Besides, at least on my Dad's end, he could get away with (though I never would) wearing little to nothing, and just carrying a cornette. Still, I know about BRD so I think I can handle that one.

I know this is an odd request, but any help would be appreciated!

Anyway, you know that BRD gear doesn't really matter until endgame. You will always get invites no matter how haggard your gear so your dad will be fine in that respect. You can help him get things like Minstrel's Coat/Earring from NMs.

Do they BC at all?

For the MNK, does your mom have the O. Kote and Kyahan from Castle Oz? I know they're always camped but respectable gear to DD in. This gear works with SAM too, so I'd go with them and camp the NMs that drop the rare/ex gear.

No she doesn't. I'll add those to the list.

They have multiple 75s because all they do is exp and craft/farm. And clearly they don't spend their gil on gear, so that doesn't slow them down any.

They static mostly, with friends. Who I guess are too nice to say anything, or possibly just as gimp. I haven't checked.

edit: Yes, they BC pretty regularly. Usually just BC40 stuff (Royal Jelly), but my dad has a heartsnatcher from one of the KSNMs now. My mom is working on getting destroyers.

Maybe your mom just forgot to switch gear at home? I used to do that all the time... specially bad if you're juggling multiple jobs that have little use of the other jobs gear.

Do your parents do any endgame at all? If not, it really doesn't matter how they choose to gear their jobs. Just let them do w/e. If so, I would urge them to make an effort to get better gear.

Well, that's kind of what this thread was for, Mog. :p They know they need better gear, but they just don't know what. And since I'm not as familiar with the jobs they have at that level, I'm not sure what to tell them to get.

They do Dynamis, basically. They'd like to do Sky, though, and possibly more over time. There's only so much leveling you can do before you decide that maybe giving endgame a try is a good thing.

But yeah, so far it hasn't been an issue because they ding 75 and then move to another job.

I can help with MNK and SAM. I'm in the process of leveling PLD, so I'm not sure what good pieces there are.

Can you list their gear for mnk and sam? I'll tell you what they can improve on.

Getting to 75 isn't exactly a major accomplishment that requires anything other then time. It's definitely not a measure of your knowledge of the game.

Okay, do they have sky access? Sea access?

With sky access it will require the joining of a sky shell, but I'm pretty sure Shura Togi is quite good for MNK (that ugly orange body piece, but it's loads easier to obtain than Usukane). Byakko's Haidate are also something they could shoot for from sky. Most sky shells run two-three times a week for a couple hours a night, and it's not that hard to get stuff from sky anymore considering a lot of people are probably capped on sky stuff.

If they have sea access, I'd recommend farming up some ancient beastcoins and getting Brutal earrings. Other sea gear isn't necessary, I just think you have to have sea access before that chick in Port Jeuno will deal with you. (I could be wrong!) Of course, if they finish CoP, Raja's rings for both of them.

For now, Scorpion Harness for DNC and MNK, Haubergeon for SAM and DRG. Both should get Walmart Turbans. Bomb core is acceptable in the Ammo slot for the jobs that can use it, others maybe a ranged weapon (SAM should - they have pretty high Archery skill) or a Smart Grenade. (Quested from the past) Neck should probably be Chivalrous Chain, PCC if they really want to, but it's a bit more costly. Amemet Mantle (+1 if they can afford) is good, Potent Belt or Swift Belt are also good. I'm just going with generic melee gear here, stuff that I know is acceptable and not terribly difficult to get. Of course for some jobs things will differ slightly. Rings should be the accuracy kind, like Woodsman or Sniper's. This is mostly TP gear I'm thinking of, WS gear varies based on the job and the WS.

Now if you want me to gear their WHMs ... oh lord, we shall be here all day. But that's some basic melee starters that work for most 75 jobs and should help quite a bit.

Woodsman/Sniper depending on job and solo activity, R.G. Collar/Chivalrous Chain, Attack earrings, Scorp Harness for MNK, Haubergeon for SAM, Walahra Turban, Amemet Mantle.
