JP Version Importer Security Token Issues

So, without a legit Japanese address that we can borrow from someone, we can't get the token forwarded to us, and thus can't get the satchel. Also, we have to register an account on the Japanese Square Enix Members site (トップページ | SQUARE ENIX MEMBERS), as you can't link a Japanese POL account to an NA SE Member account.

SquareEnix needs to give us a method to convert the regions of our account or something, as this is cutting off importers from the account security options, and is especially bad paired with our inability to pay with a non-Japanese credit card since the change in November.

So, does anyone have a guide to registering an account on the JP members site? Is anyone out there offering use of a Japanese address for account recovery for failed billing and for receipt of a security token? (I remember Jonnyram used to offer one called Ramnix, but he never responded to emails from me about it, as I seem to have found it after he quit, and the site is now down.)

European importers with American accounts are in a similar boat as us, just without the billing problem so far, as American accounts currently accept cards from any country. They can't receive a token without borrowing someone's address too.

Can we get a mass mailing to SquareEnix via physical letters in the mail to give us an account conversion option, for their oldest customers who imported, and for people that have moved between countries in the past 7 years? The JP and NA service and billing centers don't talk to each other right now, so we can't get problems resolved easily between regions.

Re: JP Version Importer Security Token Issues

I still don't understand what's with the regional locks. I mean it makes sense when you have licensees who are distributing your product in a region, but if a region isn't (wasn't) covered I don't see why impose restrictions to it now.

Now if they were going to region lock payment methods for Japan then they should've provided a way to move accounts to another region. It just doesn't make sense.

I'll probably have a lot of issues simply importing the token (not living in Canada or the US), but just hope SE doesn't decide to go retarded and start restricting payment methods for NA too before I can finish all the quests/missions I want to get done before I quit for good.

Re: JP Version Importer Security Token Issues

As far as I can tell, the restriction on JP accounts for payment was to block RMT, since many of them set up Japanese accounts since they are closer to Japan to get the registration codes. Those of us who have caught it in time have had to start importing WebMoney, by having friends in Japan buy it at convenience stores for us, or order it at a price markup from shops selling it for profit, like SuTo Corp, ($62-64 US for a 5000 yen point card that I paid $51 for to a very kind person on BlueGartr). Now I have to update payment every 1-4 months, as that is as far ahead as I can set up payment with that method, rather than only updating my payment information every 2 years.

I can see them doing this with other regions if RMT makes the jump that way, as China isn't covered by any of their regional releases.

The big kicker is that the error you get doesn't say your payment method is blocked. It says the server is busy twice, and then the third time says that you entered some card information wrong. Square Enix American customer support says the billing problem is because your bank hasn't updated their networking technology to respond fast enough, which is total bull when the card can be used for a domestic account, and the servers are running the same technology. Also, only importers with Japanese accounts and non-Japanese cards report the error symptoms, which means they are intentionally blocking our payment.

As for getting the token, we just need to find someone whose address we can borrow in the right region, have them receive it, and forward it to us, and they would expect reimbursement for the shipping. I could do that for a few people that need American addresses to use, but I still need to find someone offering the same for a Japanese address.

Of course, if they allowed account conversion, most of us wouldn't need to use someone else's address. Peple in South America, Africa, and parts of Asia would have problems still though, as they don't have a domestic version that will accept their address.

Re: JP Version Importer Security Token Issues

They could just block China completely instead if it was only about RMT though.

I hope you get someone in Japan who can get the token for you.

PS > If for some reason I can't get it I'll just keep doing what I've done all these years about inventory space. And I'd definitely remove XI from my computer the moment payment restrictions were implemented, as I'm not very fond of jumping through so many hoops to give companies money.

Re: JP Version Importer Security Token Issues

Where does it say that the "region" of a Square Enix account has anything to do with your physical address?

I'm not sure why they bother to implement separate regions at all, but there isn't even a space for physical address in the SE account registration process. It seems like the worst obstacle you would have to face is following directions in Japanese.

@Raydeus: There's a billion people in China, I'm sure some of them are legitimate customers too. Blocking the whole country would not only be dumb, but probably cause a PR backfire too; given the history of bad relations between China and Japan it could easily be perceived as racist.

Re: JP Version Importer Security Token Issues

I just bought my Token, and when doing so it let me choose the country and put in a completely new address so it doesn't have to be the address your pol account is in the name of.

Just making sure I'm clear....So, you don't get the Mog Satchel until you actually get the Token in hand to register it, or do they send you a code or something so you can link it before you get it?

Well until after the update I can't be sure. But if the past is anything to go by, we'll have to wait until we recieve the actual token, link it and input our "Reward Code" to get the satchel most likely.
