Recent chat logs?

Alright, as some of you know I just returned from FFXI after about a year-long break, and I'm trying to track down my old gear. I got some of it back, but I don't really remember who I gave some other stuff to. I was wracking my brain when I had a faint recollection... not of the names, but about recent chat logs being stores on your computer? The last conversation I had before quitting should have been with these people, and since I installed FFXI on a completely different computer this time around, the old logs should still be hidden on my old computer somewere, yes? If so, can anyone help me find them?

Re: Recent chat logs?

FFXI doesn't keep logs forever. Depending on how much shouts you passed by some of that information may have been lost.

Anyway it would be (default) in c:\program file\playonline\squareenix\PlayOnlineViewer\homeXX \log - where XX is a number denoting a character.

Isn't trying to get back gear you gave away a little wrong?

Except there was a pre-arranged agreement to give my stuff back if I ever returned. I laid out three conditions before giving anything away:

1) Don't sell it
2) Don't give it to someone else
3) Give it back if/when I return.

Re: Recent chat logs?

It's a wee bit silly to expect other people to hold on to stuff all that time, let alone remember what's yours.

Re: Recent chat logs?

This is why I never sell the stuff that people give me when they quit. I have several mules just because of this too. I've had it happen 3 times now where people came back and I get the /t "Hi {I'm back!} Can I have my stuff?" The first time I had held onto it for 6 months and then sold it because I needed gear. He came back. I sold my gear and gave him the gil.

The second time I kept the stuff for a year. When I thought about selling it I IM'd him and he said there was no way he was coming back because he was having too much fun in WoW. He came back and I got the obligatory /t. This time I sold some old low level gear and gave him the gil from it and said thats all you're getting. Then it got ugly and he was doing /sh's and telling people a bunch of bs.

The third time I sold the stuff within days of the person quitting and screenshot every conversation we had. When they came back and sent me a /t saying "Hi, remember me?" I immediately sent them a /t "Hi, yes I remember. Thank you again for the gear. I sold it and now I have a XY for my character and I love it. If you like I can give you <insert small amount here> gil to help you get started but thats all I have." When he /t'd me back and started hinting around about giving him more because he gave me everything, I blisted him. When I started receiving /t's about stuff he was saying to people, I sent them /t's with Tiny URL links in them with the conversation screenshots....and that was that.

So what, basically you treated this people like your own personal security boxes? Gave them all your stuff when you quit (like everyone always does for some stupid reason) because you knew you'd never come back.

Then you came back (like everyone always does for some stupid reason), and now you need to know how to retrieve the gear you gave away? Regardless of the conditions, unless these folks are RL friends, I would never expect them to hold on to equipment indefinitely just in case I decided to arbitrarily return a year and half later.

You gave away your stuff: deal with it.

Re: Recent chat logs?

Off Topic

Back when I was a young WAWR, a good in-game friend of mine left the game. His friend owned the account and he had been playing it for the friend. What eventually happened was, the friend decided to cancel his account and my friend said he wouldn't be able to keep up paying for it so he decided to use up all the gil in the account but he didn't get rid of any gear on the character. He kept saying "Dura you were my best friend man, so I'm gonna get you something really cool." So I showed up at the Auction House and he traded me a Eisenbrust...What was funny was, my WAWR wasn't high enough to wear it yet. So a few weeks after he left the game, when I was high enough to wear it I wore it proudly because it had sentimental value and by that time I had enough gil to buy the rest of the pieces to the suit. I still refuse to sell that armor because Rein gave it to me. When I had my account stolen I couldn't find it and I thought the RMT had taken it or tossed it, but I found it on one of my mules and I was happy. I still wear that armor for laughs every once in awhile.

Re: Recent chat logs?

No one ever gives me anything when they quit. I wouldn't want them to, either. I hate borrowing from people even. I just don't feel right about it. Although a good friend of mine forced some gil on me a few weeks ago. So I do owe him, but that debt will be paid of in a few weeks.

I didn't say "Here, take my crap", he asked if he could use it since I wouldn't be playing anymore. Either way, it doesn't really matter - the logs showed up nothing.

Re: Recent chat logs?

I got someone's "leaving the game stuff" a few months back, when our LS leader decided to play more RL. It was 4 out of 5 pieces of Cobra Coat set, and probably wasn't even being used any more anyhow. I was just about at the level where I could use it, so I did, and I got the 5th piece (the feet) and I ground myself through campaign all the way to 75. Then I started to replace it piece by piece with Nobles/Blessed (I never got AF, other than Blessed Hammer) and it eventually became a drag on my inventory.

Then when the inevitable return happened (with a short detour through lolWoW), I asked if the stuff was wanted back. I got kind of a "meh" response, but I had already dropped the stuff on my mule, after seeing if anyone else could use it. But when I saw naked NM camping going on in Oztroja, I finally dropped the stuff in the mailbox. It's one thing to only have your PLD AF, but when you start farming naked, that's when it's time for me to give your gear back.

So I've kind of got the opposite story. Lol.

Re: Recent chat logs?

Why do people give their crap away? I have never understood this mentallity. I'm going to make it simple for you.

Temporary hiatus (not paying monthly fee)
Sell all your sellables and store your gil on your character like a bank. You won't earn interest, but since most server economies are slowly making things cheaper, by the time you come back that gill will be worth more than it was before. FOR PETES SAKE DO NOT DROP ANY OF YOUR RARE/EX GEAR NO MATTER HOW USELESS YOU DEEM IT TO BE. You kept that gear until now for a reason, it's not going to hurt you to keep it on your character while you are away.

Quit
Quit the game, never come back, and forget about what you once had. You give away something, tough shit.

Re: Recent chat logs?

To be fair, after a year of waiting and needing inventory space as badly as the next player could they really be expected to have kept hold of it?
I think your gone is gone and you'll just have to obtain some more.

Re: Recent chat logs?

Just had a member of the ls come back and he was gone for less than 6 months. When he quit he gave stuff away and dropped all his rare/ex stuff. He thought if he had his character restored that they'd roll it back so he'd have his rare/ex stuff at least..........NOT. He can't even use the one time restore an item feature and get one item back. They told him its been too long. I just don't understand why people do this.

Re: Recent chat logs?

I have a nephew who I got into this game, but when he started he played with his friends on a different server. They all quit after a few months of him playing, and decided to quit too. In doing so he gave away all his money and gear to other friends leaving nothing but R/E stuff. When the server change service started, I invited him to come to my server, join my LS and do all the stuff he missed out on when his friends all up and left. And while he did switch over, he only played for a week because he had lost all of his good gear.

Long story short, don't give away your stuff. Because you'll be back.
