Temporary hiatus (not paying monthly fee)
Sell all your sellables and store your gil on your character like a bank. You won't earn interest, but since most server economies are slowly making things cheaper, by the time you come back that gill will be worth more than it was before. FOR PETES SAKE DO NOT DROP ANY OF YOUR RARE/EX GEAR NO MATTER HOW USELESS YOU DEEM IT TO BE. You kept that gear until now for a reason, it's not going to hurt you to keep it on your character while you are away.

Quit
Quit the game, never come back, and forget about what you once had. You give away something, tough shit.
I did this when I first started playing (Summer after NA release).

At that time I didnt think about the "change jobs and use the armor again for new job". I dropped my Winged Pendant because I was level 50 and I needed inventory space. When I switched to level level WHM sub (didnt have +3 mnd badge at the time) because RDM sub wasnt helpful enough...then it hit me that I could use it again. I have been regreting dropping that pendant every time i start leveling another job that can use the +agi. (I wish that was away to reset a quest kind of like the AF reset but I know RMT will abuse it to sell Rare/Ex items to NPC for gil)
