ya that's crazy, they can change the credit card, password, addresses and stuff, they try to claim it as their own, but it's great you got it back! do you think password length might protect accounts a little better? or it doesn't really matter? I heard RMT try to take accounts based on how end-game their gear is or something. I wonder if SE is making a system that can catch them or at least trace the IP of the thief?

but at the sametime, I wonder about false stolen claims? like a hacker might claim theirs was stolen, and SE ends up taking an account from the original owner and gives it to the one making a false claim? but I would imagine they would need the right information to convince them, but then, since that requires hacking, people would just swipe the account instead of asking SE to do it. It's really annoying. I wonder what measures WoW and other mmorpgs does to protect accounts? if their methods are more effective, maybe SE can learn from that?

Gonna go with a no on the password length since I've heard people say that they have custom passwords with a bunch of random characters and they were stolen. That could've been through malware, but there was also belief that many of the passwords were brute hacked. Going with a no on the IP trace as well, I'm gonna be real general with this and it might not be true, I think most RMTs are not American nor do they live here so I doubt other country authorities will be trying to get them. At least I saw them talking about that security token in that other topic which would make the passwords more secure.

brute hacked? wonder what that means? maybe if SE knows how they manage to hack and take those characters, they can find a way to block it? I mean, maybe the updates change up the codes.

well having seen that security token, I wonder if that is Japan only? I dunno, but at first glance, I think that risks players accidentally forgetting their new password once in a while. I would guess they would have to write down the new password each time to make a new one.

R S A SecurID These things are great for making secure connections. For those not familiar, it will display a new 6 digit numeric code every minute. The code that is displayed at the time of login is of course the one that will authenticate. So if the code changes before you hit enter odds are you'll have to try again. The one I use has a 6 "notch" bar on the display and the notches disappear every 10 seconds or so as a countdown to the next code.

I will seriously consider purchasing one of these if the price is right. One of my friends recently got hacked for the second time, and is now stuck on a different server with just their Rare/Ex for the next three months. While I have decent confidence in my current security measures that kind of thing still scares me.

Since the code changes after every few minutes, there'll be no need to write anything down lol.
