missing installation file

(I apologize beforehand if this has been answered before, but my internet is acting up at the moment and I don't feel like fighting with it for half and hour to search through the forums thoroughly.)

I was trying re-install FFXI the other day, and due to the CD being horribly scratched, it was unable to read a certain file during installation and that caused it to pause and cancel the whole install.

What would be the best way of getting hold of a new copy of the game (without buying it again)? Considering I still have a valid Registration Code and everything. Is there anywhere I can download it directly from SE? A torrent?

Assuming the problem is with core FFXI and not an expansion, you might try looking at their free trial download?

There are also tools and kits for attempting to repair scratches on a CD.

it's just 10 bucks on some stores, 19.99 on our store. It's not in the torrents, although I saw some a year ago the seeder count was so low that it will take you ages to download the damn thing. there is a download available for when you invite a friend but you need a download code. So yeah i think the free trial is your best bet, no credit cards needed just an active email.

Please realize that there is a lot of game hacking going on right now so downloading the game might not be a good idea. Many times there are trojans/keylogger programs within the file. It's best to go and buy the discs. Computers/consoles can sometimes need a reinstall of the software so you'd have to go buy it anyways so why not just do it now.

yeah and vanadiel 2008 has most of the updated files so you won't need to download as many new files. oh GrandMom i sent you a PM

This actually was a Vanadiel 2008 version I had bought to replace my previous CDs, I just hate the idea of having to dish out 20 bucks or so yet again.

But that will probably be what I end up doing.
I don't think the free trial will do me much good if it doesn't include expansions.
