Yeesh, I agree. Sure, if you've got ADD you can try every job, and maybe someday you'll get one of them past 30. I wanted to do WHM/BLM from the start and I've kept focused on it. In a little over 6 months I'm up to the low 60s and still having fun. Other people in my LS have been playing for 3 years and only got to 40 after the LS formed last summer. Also, I'm saving most of my jobs for if someone does a conquest takeover... Windurst never gets Zulkheim on Fairy and I want the OP someday. Also, I generally do not like XP parties. (This would probably change once I've got WHM to 75 and start leveling something else, as it's the back line heal that I find tedious, and I'm not alone in that.) I've probably played in no more than a dozen XP parties, but at least one each in the "usual" pre-AU places. The "group solo" play of Campaign/Besieged is much more fun to me, and it feels a lot like when I used to LARP. (Amtgard, for those who were going to ask.) Unlike the back of an XP party, I constantly have to make tactical decisions to get things done without being squished... much. And I wouldn't have been able to start it so early except that they both favor WHM much earlier than everyone else.

Armando (I love dinosaurs also) has a point more along the lines of my OP. If you were to lvl a job to 4 and didn't like it...well you really haven't even gotten into the meat of the job yet. I did use BLM as an example only because I have a faint recollection of Lvling BLM and steping outside of bastok....and dying like 6 times trying to lvl to 10 because I was trying to play it ... like I had my war or thf.... It was a learning experience. |

I personally used a "Level all jobs to 20" method right after I first started. It really helped me learn the basics of how the game and all of the jobs works, and made me a decent amount of money in the process. Try it out, you might find it fun! Personally, I found levelling all jobs to 10/20 to be a blast, so don't be afraid to give it a shot! Just don't feel you have to level ANY job you don't enjoy (occasional subjobs a possible exception.)

I agree that starting with one job and scooting along is probably not the best start. When I started back with the US release I took each job to about level 5, then chose the one that I liked the best and took it to 18, got the subjob ability, then went back and took the next up to around 20. After that I was free to play my main up to 40, which I felt was a WAY off, and it was haha, or play around with any number of the other lower jobs I had. Then again that was way before FoV or most of the other great ways to get XP nowadays. The main thing is to find out what you like, if you like what you start with, then don't bother trying anything else. There will be a day that you get curious, and then youll have a fresh lvl1 to play with
