Sorry for the spaces it wouldn't let me post this otherwise.

Use this site to get your key.

Here is what was posted on Ifrit, I take no credit for this it was Ethereous.

Bushido! AND EVERYONE! Special note about the free trial. Well, Specifically Bushido, you WOULD NOT have to create a new account to use the VANA 08 collection Registration Code. the 14-day free trial lets you ONLY use the very basic FF XI game. No expansions included. I tried to register the provided Content ID the trial gives you for the expansion services and to do that it requires a working POL/FFXI registration code, hence the one we got when we bought the vana 08 collection, thus activating the account for the monthly subscription, henceforth allowing us use the credit card. It denied the Code as we cannot enter our credit/debit card information yet due to servers being down. Long story short, Yes you can "Upgrade" the free trial account for full use of the expansion pack with the registration code included in the 08 collection. HERE IS A QUOTE FROM SE ABOUT IT " To transfer to a regular billing-based gameplay, you will need to enter a registration code included in a Final Fantasy XI software package. If you do not have a software package, please purchase one. You can view information on the packages currently being sold from the 'Product Info' link below. *** It is possible to transfer to regular billing-based gameplay with the software installed during the free trial, but please be aware that no expansion pack data is included." You heard it folks, Fool proof vana 08 collection loophole to bypass the downed servers!!! REJOICE!!!

Enjoy the installation and update process it takes a few hours at least.

I play on both the Xbox and the PC. You can play with the same account on either platform (not simultaneously, of course), so alternate as you please. This includes the free trial.

As to be expected, I still haven't managed to register, but I'm still trying.

EDIT:

Jayhood, you could try acquiring a key through your computer, then use that to create an account on your Xbox (I'm making the assumption that the key distribution website isn't loading for you on your Xbox, unless you mean your PC). I received my key a couple of hours ago. Remember that you can only get one every 24 hours, though.

When you register with the key you obtained through this website (not the 30 day trial key included with your boxed copy, which also requires a credit card), you can make an account without needing to submit any payment information, which should circumvent the errors we've been receiving. When all of this is straightened out, just upgrade your free trial account with your retail key -- you'll still receive your 30 free days.

EDIT:

Oh, and you register the key through the Play Online Viewer, just as you normally would. As I said, you just won't need to submit any payment information this time.

Re: Problems changing credit card info -JP POL

Hey everyone: problem details

The problem is, SE sends an authorization to your bank to make sure your card can work. banks, as a default place most cards on a short wait list for the approval of that confirmation. The problem is that Japanese has 3-4X the upload speeds that america does, but they did not figure this into their confirmation system. The solution: call your card company and beg them to over-ride this if they can.

Re: Problems changing credit card info -JP POL

Did you actually get a Japanese account to authorize an American card this way or are you just speculating? Japanese accounts started getting these problems in November, and there's been a lot of us trying to fix it. WebMoney is the only solution we've been able to get to work.

Re: Problems changing credit card info -JP POL

I'm planning on testing this t'morrow or tuesday. The reason for the issue is what about the 4th or 5th SE rep gave me, which makes sense to protect our CCards from 'advanced machinery' and after testing connections and comparing them to international ones it makes perfect sense. as for a solution to the issue, I read on some other forums that people have been able to get it to work if they contacted their banks to have it pushed through. As for setting up a japanese account.... I have no idea how to do this, not to mention how to do it while maintaining my same characters.

Re: Problems changing credit card info -JP POL

Characters cannot be transferred between accounts. SE has mostly fixed this problem when it was happening to NA accounts, but every importer I know with an expired card has had to switch to WebMoney. The Japanese system seems to be blocking foreign cards as of November to stop RMT accounts. This solution doesn't seem to work for a JP account.

For setting up a JP account, you import a JP copy of the game and register an account with it, like all the importers here did.

Re: Problems changing credit card info -JP POL

thats all fine'n'dandy but that doesn't help the hundreds to thousands of Americans who don't want to buy, let alone import, another copy of the game. All of which will need to eventually update their cards w/i the next 2-3 years.

Re: Problems changing credit card info -JP POL

And why do you guys want to buy a japanese version while the US version works ?

We (importers) have japanese version because we started playing at the same time as the Japanese at the lunch of FFXI and the game wasn't available to us.

Re: Problems changing credit card info -JP POL

Then you're in the wrong thread. This is a thread where those of us with JP accounts are trying to fix the billing problem we get adding a non-Japanese card to the account. It's not the same problem as American cards on American accounts are getting. Japanese accounts plain stopped accepting non-Japanese cards in November, except for cards that were already registered to accounts. If your card expires and you have to update to a new one, you can't unless it's Japanese. The only working solution we have without getting Japanese credit cards is to switch to WebMoney, which means we have to pay an even higher rate to buy the cards from resellers that sell outside of Japan.
