I have both the PC and 360 version. I feel like I would enjoy it more on the 360 because I could relax on my bed and just sit back and play, but while on the PC version I'm sitting here in one position. But, at the same time, people say the 360 version is harder to play because you dont get all the options that you could get on the PC version (I wouldn't be using a keyboard).

This is a discussion/opinion thread, so go nuts :D

I'm new to the game by the way. Still trying to figure out what job I want. I think I'm going with RDM. They seem pretty badass :D

As far as I can tell, the only options you get on PC that you don't on either console is the ability any PC user has over any game: adjustable GPU settings (mostly through registry edits). Also, PC users have access to an official and non-official (which is undeniably better) windower. The game normally runs at full-screen and will crash if you try to alt-tab or otherwise de-focus FFXI. However, the full-screen issue isn't actually an issue at all on a platform that's made to only run one app at a time in full-screen.

And regardless of which platform, you'll want a keyboard.

you still need a keyboard for any version of FFXI, and the only diffrence between all three is that hte PC version has changeable Video settings......

who ever told you it had "less options" was wrong.

Also for some odd reason the 360 version likes to freeze when in things like Besiged -.-

I haven't played the 360 version, and started on the PS2, but between the two I have I prefer the PC better. The PS2 in towns was god awful log, couldn't even type properly half the time. That plus not being able to change the size of the chat window made me want to switch once I got a PC strong enough to play it.

Although ironically I concede that I prefer playing the game on the controller, it's pretty much built for it. I have a USB PS2 controller for my PC/Laptop for playing this game, I know hardly ANY of the keyboard controls so I'd be pretty boned minute I had to try it. I was tempted in just buying the disk for the 360 until the recent 360 problems came up according to some of my LS mates. Whenever I grab a chance I'll prolly snag a used one off ebay.

Anyway to answer the OP in more detail.. I play on Xbox 360 and I used to play on the PC. To me, I prefer the 360.

Because I can plug my wireless controller and keyboard in and lay down on the couch/bed and play and I can sing my BRDy songs from the computer if I am searching something.

But yeah.. you need a keyboard its kinda a requirement for any MMO. Super cheap if you go looking.

After the 360 maintenance some of my ls mates complained about login issues and such, like having to reset their router each time to connect to FFXI and such. I dunno if these were widespread or are even still active but I just mentioned it.

I've not had any problems with my 360 connecting.....yet. I concur about the PS2 lag in just about any populated area. The first time i went to Whitegate I couldn't wait to leave because of it. On my PC I never even tried to play without a controller since I started out on my PS2.
Between the 360 and the PC it is a toss up really depending on what I am doing in game. If I am on a mission I usually like to use the PC for the purpose of referencing the wiki if I run into a snag. When I farm or just relax I like the wireless controllers and larger screen that I can see from my couch. I still run into areas that will lag out my 360 way before the PC, a certain example would be popular campaign areas. Oh how I hate reading the message that an Orcish horde is on the way only to see them spawn one by one swinging axes at my head seconds later.

I'd probably like the graphic quality of the 360 better if I had it... however, I'd certainly miss my DAT mods and swaps. Plus it seems like the game would take up all the space on our 360 HD. :3 So, graphics aside, I like the PC version better.

It does take up a good chunk of your HD if you have the smaller one

If you have a decent computer and configure the graphics, the PC version looks better than the 360 version.

However the default settings look almost as bad as PS2...

I have both 360 and PC versions, I perfer the PC version because I can use my laptop and play in windowed mode, surf ffxiclopedia/ffxiah for FFXI related stuff, and watch TV at the same time. Playing on 360 I can play on my 42" HDTV, but I can't watch law and order while playing it then if I need to pull up a map or w/e its still on my laptop.

Hmm.. That makes me think a little bit now. I have a friend whos brother plays the 360 version, but he doesn't use a keyboard. Well he does, but it's the addon for the controller. Others say its recommended, but it's not needed. Can someone give an example of why I would need to use a keyboard for the 360 version?

Because if you are in a party and you are asked a question or you need to respond, it'll take 5 mins to type a 5 word answer with the onscreen keyboard and the controller instead of a real one. If you get into a social ls and peeps are talking, you can't comment because by the time you finish typing, they've moved to a different subject lol. When you get a invite for a party its easier to hit [Tab] "Yes" [Enter] to Autotranslate to {Yes, Please} than to scroll down the list to find it, but before that you have to go to the /Tell list and select that person's name. (I'm sure about 85% of that is correct lol, but since I've always used a keyboard I can't really say much about playing without one.)

You've made a good point lol. I guess I'll have to buy a USB extension then because my bed is pretty far away from my TV >>
