you might find it more difficult, especially as a Galka, to level all 6 jobs right off the bat like that. You can share gear among many of them (e.g. the bronze harness and leather sets for everything but BLM and WHM), and those early levels are easy. Like you said, it'll give you an idea of gameplay, and you'll have subjobs pre-primed a bit. But you also have the disadvantage of not having a subjob when you're leveling any of them, vs. sticking with one job to 18 and then having a subjob for all the others. I've no idea about disabling the keys. The bonus ring is better than nothing. It's all right until the better rings you get at level 10 (INT/MND) or 14 (anything else). Signet lasts your Rank + your nation's place in conquest hours. (So if you're Rank 2 and Bastok is in 3rd, it'd last 5 hours). I don't have anything to add about XP or farming around Bastok that isn't already in 80 billion newbie threads. But you can spam the quest Mom, the Adventurer? for a while to get fame and fire crystals and gil. It's not exactly fast, but it's something.

I think SE fixed the Home/WIndow key a while back, it no longer works, at least for my 2 PCs. So you shouldn't have to worry about that.

Signet length formula: Your rank + Your nation's conquest rank. For example, if you're Rank 2, and Bastok is ranked 1st in conquest, your signet will last 3 hours. If you're rank 10, and Bastok is ranked 2nd in conquest, your signet will last 12 hours. Never changes. Look into some quests early on, as they will raise fame, which will be very useful when you want to get some other quests unlocked to you. Also, try not to throw anything out, even if you have to run back to town a lot. If something doesn't seem to sell at the AH, you can make a little bit of gil by selling it to an NPC, and there's no waiting involved. Nothing off the top of my head, honestly, best thing for you to do will be to just get in game and poke around, at which point you might find something else you need answered.

If you are planning on farming, take THF to 15 so you will have access to "Treasure Hunter". "Treasure Hunter 1" gives you a slightly better chance to obtain items from mobs. Anybody that tells you that TH1 does nothing, do not pay them any attention and just snicker to yourself as you farm. I had a random THF send me a /tell one day asking for help with one of his Artifact Armor pieces. At the time I was farming bees in Gustaberg as a 74WAR/15THF. I said ok and started heading to his location. When I remembered that I was /THF, I told him I was gonna change sj's and I'd be right there. As I was running to Bastok he mentioned to me "I heard TH1 does nothing for farming or drops." He also refused to listen to reasoning that it actually does work lol. Quote:
I think about XP mobs like this, in bastok start in Gustaberg (Outside area of Bastok) and work your way outward toward Valkurm Dunes which you should be in Valkurm @ level 10 for parties. Start with the bees/worms, and work your way up. Depending on the job, some mobs will probably be stronger/weaker, depending on the level of the mob to your level and your stats. Because of that you have to make sure you check mobs before running in "Leeroy Jenkins" style and getting wtfpwnd. The length signet lasts is based on your rank, and where your nation is in conquest. Looks like Aks listed the formula above .Farming is always pretty good on gil especially in Bastok. Bastok is the home for the Alchemy, Goldsmithing, and Smithing guilds, so crystals that are fire or water should sell pretty good there, as well as any beehive chips or honey that you get from killing bees. Also whatever nation is in first place will have a higher demand on earth and wind crystals. That is because the nation that is in first has a quiver/toolbag npc. The wind crystals will be used for crafting bolt heads, lumber, and ninja tools, and the earth crystals will be used for bolts and arrows. If you plan to take up every job to 10 or higher, make sure you take every job you play seriously and don't do any of that "thesis mysub" (aka This is my sub.) which is one of the biggest excuses people run into when asked "Why is your subjob gimped" or "Why are you wearing level 1 armor and you're level 15." Anyways have fun and welcome aboard

Good idea, I did the same thing when I first started about this time last year. Leveling the first 6 jobs to 10 also will give you enough of a taste to know where your interests lie. Plus its not so far in that if you decide you just can't spend the next however many days of your life staring at the back of that enormous head, you can start a new character pretty easily without losing TOO much time investment. And the Galka combat sound is like a walrus sneezing.... The Starting Ring makes a difference - when your total for a score is 4 or 5 at lvl1 and you raise it by one thats a huge difference, at lvl 1 so they are useful, and there are almost no lvl1 rings anyway, so it gives you something. Do the intro NPC's quests - he will take you through your first 10 levels or so, get you a few gilz and items and I think you even get some Rank out of the whole series. There should be a stickied thread on here somewhere for the whole series of quests the tutorial NPC's give you.

But that would be only if they were attacking the same mob. I thought I read in a SE interview somewhere that the Treasure Hunter acted like a status effect when the player with Treasure Hunter gets hate from the mob. If I remember correctly then TH1 would help unless the thief came by and put their TH2 on the mob, overwriting the TH1 much like a higher tier spell would do.

No we weren't farming together, I didn't know him at all lol, and I don't team farm with other people. I was farming on my own before he sent me the tell for help with his AF gear. I was about to go running to where he was at to fight the mob, but then i realized I was /THF and I said lemme change my SJ right quick. As I was running to Bastok to change to /NIN or /SAM, he made the remark that "I heard TH1 does nothing for farming or drops."

And finally last night I managed to login, create my character, familiarize with the controls and explore Port Bastok a little. I set background resolution too low and the game just looked hideous, I could barely tell the names of the NPCs. ![]() Earlier today I managed to fight a little to get some exp and crystals. Thanks. I'm checking it right now for starter quests. Quote:

Leveling the 6 start jobs is always good. I would level the Melee jobs first, then work on the Mage jobs. That will allow you to save gil for the spells you'll have to learn. Also realize that as a galka being a mage will be a little harder to start- I am not saying it's not possible, just a little harder. Be sure to save everything, sell anything stackable in a stack of twelve. Not sure about the home key ; ; Free gear is free gear, the ring will help out. I'm not even sure what the Bastok ring does (I'm from Windy) but at level 1 every bit helps. As for what to farm- Once you have couple levels under your belt the saplings are good- grain seeds (at least on my server) sell great and they are right outside in Gustaburg- my mule farms them for my garden, but as I said they sell good. Be sure to get sanction, and crystals are always good too. When you hit 10+ be sure to camp Leaping Lizzie for her boots- they are great, and can be worn for quite a while. Just remember she's stingy- I killed her over 20 times before I got my boots and I've heard of people who have doubled or tripled that. Last thing. There are now tutorial NPC's in all the starter cities that give you help when you start out. They give you quests to do that reward you with stuff that will help a new player out. Here is the thread all about them http://www.ffxionline.com/forums/new...haracters.html

![]() Signet duration varies with your nation rank. The higher your rank, the longer it lasts. Don't forget to have fun. The first time leveling to 75 is such a nice experience ! Don't miss it. Also try to understand (first hand) how other jobs work. It will surely help you to make nice parties and prevents a lot of misunderstandings ![]() Have fun !

Another thing that's worth doing is visiting all the guilds and joining them. You get a crystal out of it, and you can be sure that you can level that craft if you come across something that stacks better after synthing. Do the same when you visit the other towns.

Some really good advice in this thread. I have something different to add though. You should just go in and play; it'll be the best way to learn. Don't worry if you make mistakes or stuff up. Also, don't get bogged down with leveling a lot of jobs. I've had friends in the past who focused too much on getting a few or more jobs to level 37 instead of actually getting a job further than that. While you can still have fun at those levels, you really don't experience the best stuff this game has to offer. Needless to say, those friends ended up getting far too burnt out and left. However, leveling the basic jobs to level 10 would be a cool way to see what your play style is, but it shouldn't be the deciding factor as a lot of jobs don't get the fun attributes, abilities and spells until a bit later on. |
