Problem with PoL on PS2 - Final Fantasy XI :: Dreams in Vana'diel :: Community

Recently I've been having problems with trying to log in to PoL on my PS2. Normally this wouldn't bother me, as I play on PC most of the time, but I have two accounts and being able to be logged into them at the same time would be nice.

Anyway, when I start up PoL, everything loads up fine, it does the friendslist and mail check thing, but after that loading bar goes away, there's nothing. There is the little bar at the top with my handle name, friends list, mail, etc, but other than that, the "Play" button never loads. It will sit like this for about 5 minutes, then eventually time out and give me an error code, I believe it was pol-1314? Might have been 1413... (forgive me, I forget, I don't have it up on my tv right this minute) I used to play on PS2 all the time, and never have encountered this problem :/ I tried re-installing PoL, I ran the file check for both PoL and FFXI, checked that my internet is working properly (as far as I know) for the ps2, and I can't think of what else to try. Is it possible my hard drive or my network adapter is just dying? Any suggestions would be appreciated~

Have you tried reinstalling FFXI? I am not sure if this will help, but it can't hurt. Also, you may want to reformat the HDD. This would definitely clear up any HDD problems you are having. I have had to do this twice, once it got corrupted, and the second time I had to get a "new" PS2 cause my old one died.

No, I haven't tried reinstalling ffxi, I figured the problem was with playonline, but I guess I should try that too. I'm not as computer techie as I used to be, so do you know how I would go about reformatting the hard drive? I have no idea how, lol.

Edit - I think I may have found my answer with google... I need the HDD utility cd that came with it or something? D: I bought this game 3 years ago, I have no idea where I put that disk, go figure. :/ Is there any other way I might be able to reformat it? Or would I be stuck digging through my closet for a week hoping I'll find the disk?
