Did you notice a difference in gameplay? More prone to lagging in heavily populated areas?
Got my own place and can only afford Verizon's 768Kbps DSL...how do you like it? [Bahamut] Rank 5

on topic: You probably wont notice much of a difference with 768 DSL. Perhaps besieged might move slower, but it's kinda like that for just about anyone when theres 400+ people in a zone.
Edit: however, looking over your jobs leads me to believe you don't often do besieged, so you can probably just assume everything will work ok. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | The following user says "Thank You" to Ameroth for above post: | | | 01-17-2008, 11:50 AM | #5 (permalink) | I Got Charged Twice For This :( Brain of Knowledge Join Date: Jun 2007 Location: Chicago Suburbs Posts: 1,583 Style: Light - Version 6 My Mood: Thanks: 166 Thanked 380x in 238 Posts Gil: 13,086 Bank: 49,960 Total Gil: 63,045 Donate | Re: Switching from Cable to DSLow I was thinking of doing the same, to be honest Comcast service has been shit lately, not really worth the price. I had 0 problems with Comcast in 4 years, however now I've had one of their modems crap out on me, and now a month after getting it replaced, the service is acting up again, and this time it's a different issue.
I checked to make sure it's not my router, but basically the internet service just hiccups once every 45-60 minutes and not only d/cs me, but takes 3-5 minutes to fully d/c, and I was getting major lag(my spells wouldn't start casting until 2-3 seconds after I hit the macro) in events that I'd never lagged in before. Previously I'd never actually fully d/c, but the internet hiccups would make me R0 every 2-3 minutes, which pretty much completely cripples me in most of the things I do.
After d/cing for the 11th time last night(after just spending 45 minutes in a campaign battle that ended right as I got back on, giving me 0 points, same thing had happened in Besieged 3 hours prior) I tried resetting my modem/router before bed last night. If it isn't working properly when I get home today I do think I'm going to call Comcast and cancel my service, $90 a month for an unstable internet connection and plain basic cable isn't worth it. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 01-17-2008, 12:02 PM | #6 (permalink) | | Senior Veteran Oracle of Knowledge Join Date: May 2006 Posts: 4,507 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 106 Thanked 1,346x in 819 Posts Gil: 4,141 Bank: 140,100 Total Gil: 144,242 Donate | Re: Switching from Cable to DSLow I have DSL at less then 512k. The internet was always down for some reason or another. It didn't matter what time of day either. 3pm, 10 pm, 4am I would not have any service. MY channel package for tv was a waste of money and my phone has more static then a broken radio in a led box.
Then you throw in the fact they said it take them a few weeks to fix it all along with them monitoring bandwidth. I made the jump to DSL. So far I have had no problems. I don't see any difference in game speed or download speeds. An I can actually use the phone.
The real problem is that we rank poorly compared to other nations ISP.

Switch now, while you still don't want to kill them. | Turned out Comcast wasn't the culprit this time around, I found instead that Mrs. Martini had nibbled through a bit of the ethernet cable that connected the modem to the router. I replaced it and everything worked fine last night.
I will say that any of the times I have actually been aggravated enough to actually call them and bitch, they've had someone out to fix the issue in less than 24 hours. And a tip, if you are currently a basic or digital cable subscriber with Comcast and you want to upgrade to a HD box, call them and tell them you'd like to cancel service. When the Nicest Customer Service Rep in the world picks up and asks why, tell them that you want to upgrade to HD, but you saw that Comcast charges current customers for the HD upgrade, while DirectTV and new Comcast customers get it for free. Your new HD box will be on the way. 6-7 of my friends have all gotten their DB box in this manner now, I'll be getting mine next month when I can afford the actual monthly service. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 01-20-2008, 09:20 PM | #12 (permalink) | | Junior Member Join Date: Mar 2006 Posts: 46 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 1 Thanked 1 Time in 1 Post Gil: 7,032 Bank: 10,827 Total Gil: 17,859 Donate | Re: Switching from Cable to DSLow just a question, prolly the wrong forum, but i just installed ffxi on my laptop from my desktop and was wondering something. I used dsl on my desktop and have a ethernt cable to my dsl at home, cuz my laptop doesnt pick up my router for some reason. I was wanting to play this on my college campus between classes and was wondering if it matters what ip address is the game is set to or does it change if you pick up a wireless signal. just a stupid question cuz i never tried it or heard of someone doing it. if this sounds too stupid just write me off, i can take criticism. haha!

later all. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 01-21-2008, 01:20 AM | #13 (permalink) | | Oh yeah! yeah yeah, yeah! lol Oh I'm not a fan either, but they're about the only choice I have where I am right now. I'm hoping that Verizon moves FiOS a bit north into my neighborhood soon though.
