there may be an issue with your server atm, but its hard to tell

give it a couple more days, and then either contact SE or check with your service provider if youre still having problems

Its irrelevant.

I'd like other people to think of FFXIO as a helpful community as it has allways been, coming here calling people stupid is not in good taste. Speak your mind, but mind the rules.

I've got nothing against FFXIO being a helpful community. I have plenty against FFXIO becoming nothing but people posting the same questions over and over again without even bothering to use their head or use google, and then not using the help they do get. There are plenty of other places that can fall victim to that trap. We have enough idiots around here from the people that aren't completely braindead, we don't need more.

I guess that means that if you have a question about anything that Feba already knows, then it is a bad question and King Feba will get offended if you ask it. I forgot rule #1;"don't post any questions unless you run it by Feba 1st to see if it meets his approvial and has been asked 4 years ago"(you know we wouldn't want to ask something that was asked in 1 post years ago.

More like "if you have a question about something that hasn't been changed recently or requires a modern opinion, fucking google it". There are plenty of questions I've heard before that I don't mind seeing as long as people make an effort first. There are also plenty I've never heard of that should never have been posted. It has nothing to do with who's already heard of what.

Re: problem
I've had constant disconnects from FFXI over the past month. it turns out that my router was rejecting the ip address that was being sent by the DHCP server (cable modem).

I called my cable company since if I just plug in my modem directly to my computer I still get d/ced. I exchanged my old cable modem for a new cable modem, that helped with some issues, but the main issue was just the router.

Are you using a home router to give different computers / systems the ability to go online? If so there may be a problem with it.

If you are plugged in directly to the cable or dsl modem, you may want to give your cable or phone company a call and ask them to check your signal frequencies to see if they are are the correct ones or if their too low, you'll get out of sync with the server.

This is a very frustrating ordeal, and I hope you resolve your issue soon. I finally resolved mine by getting a RMA from Linksys for my router (WRT330N), and bought a temporary 54G router from Dlink.

I guess older technology is more stable as opposed to the newer draft stuff.
Good luck with your issue, and if you have any more questions please feel free to post here.

I took your suggestion and Gooled "no response from server in ffxi" and got 26k responses(5 million if you remove "in ffxi"). The 1st page of responses has 7 different suggestions that are all outdated except for the 1 that say to re-configure a router. Usually google is pretty good but not all the time. To tell people to "Google it" for almost every question that is not end-game related is plain stupid in a game where people knowing what they are doing is kind of necessary. Remember, there are very few guides and a very limited amount of web sites that are reliable for ffxi game plkay information(and yes I have searched many things on line so I know that there are a few good sites".

Feba, I know you get upset when people ask general questions or questions that seem "dumb" to you, but to the poster they are important. Since FFXI is a game that requires cooperation and fundamentals, wouldn't it be wiser to help out when you can, instead of be-litteling someone for a question they have.

To answer the op's question:it may have to do with SE, or it may be a problem with your modem or router(if you are using a router). If you haven't already, try a different on-line game and see if it gives you the same problem.(if it does it is on your end). Most of the fixes on line involve the router(but not all the time).

And your wannabe elitist attitude helps the issue? Exactly, if you have nothing constructive to say then shut up, noone but yourself cares. Go make a QQ thread if that's all you want to do.

In regards to the topic, I had this issue when first starting in FFXI. I ended up having to access my router and open specific ports for the game. If you are behind a router this may be the issue, although it won't explain why it happened unexpectedly. If you don't have a router and have no way to access modem settings, just call your ISP(the people who charge you for your internet basically) and tell them about it, it may be something on their end.

Re: problem
First of all, yes, google requires digging. It also requires a bit of brainpower, searching for error messages and such. I know 12 year olds that do this stuff without any problems. It's not hard.

Second of all, it has nothing to do with endgame. it has to do with finding an answer to a question, and putting out a bit of effort before you rely on other people to wait on you hand and foot. Obviously plenty of people manage to do that, why should the lazy and the stupid be given a free pass?

Third, again, this has nothing to do with my opinion of the question. It has to do with if the person put in effort into finding an answer or fixing it themselves, which they obviously didn't in this case. I wouldn't belittle someone for a question unless it was very, very stupid. This is not because the question-- which is perfectly valid, in other ways-- it is because they put no effort into finding an answer

Fourth, is "it may be SE's problem, or it may be a problem with your router or modem" any more helpful than any of any random result on google?

If you want to bitch about me being mean, go ahead. I am, and I will not apologize for it. If you want to bitch about me having a problem with 'people asking questions', read what I'm saying before you bother commenting on it, as everything you said was already answered by my previous comment. If you're still compelled to think I have a problem with people asking questions, just save your words and go have a sandwich.

Kinda yes, kinda no. I don't play the game itself, but I've always been far more involved in forums than the actual game. Me playing FFXI mostly was me reading forums, so it's not much difference. Just because I don't play FFXI anymore does not mean I do not care about FFXIO anymore-- same as many smods.

Yes, me being helpful on a forum that has ALWAYS been known for being the one place that you can get a helpful response is me being ironic. And I don't have to have a wannabe moderator attitude, a moderator himself told you to cut the act already you moron, get it through your skull. You don't make the rules here, not I, not anyone. We as users do not own this forum, we are merely allowed to use it at the behest of the owners, and thus their rules are the rules that need to be followed. It's like arguing that you can cheat in an MMO cause you pay a monthly fee. As you agree to a TOS with them, you clicked you agree when you made an account here.

Don't like it? Get bent and go to another forum, we don't need you whining and making more useless posts like you have in the past, where you have some stupid idea, post it, then throw a fit when someone doesn't agree and say that they are wrong. Grow up.

It's mostly if you have a question that can easily be answered by looking through FFXIclopedia, Bluegartrls.com, or FFXI-atlas.com, then people might be ticked if you ask it. This isn't Ask-FFXIOnline.com. We have an FAQ forum, but it means Frequently Asked Questions, not Frequently Ask Questions.

Just do some research before asking.

Touchy, touchy....When you grow up you will find out that having this attitude will get you fired from jobs and label you as an a@@ hole. It's funny Feba that you are the only person on this site to think that the question was dumb, or at least feel compelled to bitch about it. Who are you to tell anyone that there question about FFXI shouldn't be asked.(last I knew you don't know everything about the game, but you tend to act like you do towards others). I am only bitching about you being"mean" because you felt compelled to tear apart the op's question like it offended you, instead of being a little considerate and ANSWER THE QUESTION WITHOUT ATTACKING IT.

Re: problem
oka, basically it sounds like it could be a whole host of things. It used to happen to me a lot when we I had several roomates all sharing the router. I got rid of all of them and I almost never get disconnected.
Like people said, it could be the router, could be your ISP, could be a firewall.
Best bet is to call SE's support line and see about them walking you through messing with your router, etc. I believe they still do that.

But you do anyway. Even though, as you pointed out, I've already had Balfree yell at me, and if I have any problems with it, I can deal with him, SINCE HE IS ACTUALLY A MOD. You are not. Cut the attitude. If you think people are breaking the rules, report them and move on.

And your point? I, like pretty much everyone else who has been here for any decent length of time, am friends with the Super Mods and Administrators. Yes, I might disagree with the way things are handled at some point, but that doesn't mean I have anything against the moderators, and from the replies I've received from more than a couple of them they don't completely disagree with me either.

Or, not. It's far closer to, you know, speaking your mind. There is no fee paid to PiNG to keep my account open, and if he or AKsyogin or Taskmage closed it tomorrow just to see what would happen that would be their choice.

Thar be a two way street, bub. If you don't like the way regulars act on a forum, go somewhere else where they're more huggy and feely. We also don't need whiny posts bitching about people being mean, although you're quite clearly still around. Get over it.

I have no problem looking things up(FFXIclopedia.com is one of my favorate sites to look up things). I do have a problem with people bashing someone becaused they ask a question(reguardless of if it has been asked or not). I know there is a frequently asked questions section but maybe the op was rushed for time or wanted to get an opinion instead of realying on facts only(sometimes opinions help out more than facts in the right setting). I'm not saying it's not annoying to get asked repeated questions, I'm more just asking if we can back-ogff in some of the responses. If you don't like a question or think it is a repeated question, try to steer the op into a right direction(without making them feel like an a@@ for asking the question), or at least PM them that the question is maybe un-necessary(just don't treat them like shit for asking a question).
