Is there a fast way to launch ffxi without using the PlayOnline UI?

I just want to launch FFXI directly, if i ever want to use playonline, i will launch it myself....... but to have a play online shortcut and an ffxi shortcut on my desktop and have them both do the same thing is a bit ridiculous. Any way to launch FFXI directly?

i think theres no way to do that maybe cuz u using POLV u can see if u hv any new mail from POL or a friend message or maybe cuz sometimes u need the POLV for the upgrades..idk but well thats what i think maybe im wrong ^^

Somehow I believe Playonline Viewer to be a security hub aswell.

If there was a way to do this based on the existing software, I'm sure w6r would. The best you can do is streamline the connect (set to auto-login on your saved ID/password info) so that you only have to confirm 3 selections to get through POL. This has been griped about before, but I think doing anything about it would violate SE's vision of what POL is supposed to be.

Perhaps i misphrased it but what i meant was not eliminating playonline, i mean clicking the ffxi shortcut and having it login to playonline automatically, enter all the passwords automatically and then automatically launch ffxi

We know what you mean, the answer is still no.

Automatic login is a feature of POL Viewer. It's not hard to figure out.

You're always going to be dumped at the POL main screen. SE sees this as a vehicle for their larger entertainment 'platform' and one-stop location for anything they want you to see (although maybe this is changing a little, as a lot of recent promotional info has been exclusive to their website). The biggest concession I could see them possibly making is putting you straight on the FFXI page of POL viewer. But they want you to see the ads/notices strewn about the main page, so this is also unlikely. They definitely don't want people skipping past their disclaimer about not letting FFXI run your life, maintenance notices, etc.

If SE were to one day decide that PlayOnline as they've envisioned it is a bad idea, dump the notion of advertising anything on the main page of it, etc. you might see a little more streamlining, but honestly, I don't think you're ever going to see them budge even slightly on this.
