hi i just picked the game up today and have a few questions

ill prob be playing a caster

1. what class are in high demand as of now?

2. and does race really matter when it comes to what job you pick?

No it doesn't race only effects the max stats your character can have, for casting types tarutaru are the best mages tho.

All jobs are needed for something, just depends on what you want to do. And you really wont know that till your to that stage of the game as your perceptions change as you level.

As far as race, they dont really play a major role as there is gear to help make up any defiencies. However, some races arn't as suited to certain jobs. Taru plds and Galka Blms are examples of that. I wouldn't encourage a new player to start of as somthing like that as the gear you'll need to make up for your weaknesses can become costly or hard to obtain. But I would recommend you pick a race and face that you'll enjoy looking at a loooooong time because unlike some other MMOs, people don't generally remake characters once they've leveled a job.

If you're interested in playing a mage job I'd recommend starting off as a rdm or whm when you get in game, both are jobs you'll want/need as a sub job later on. Once you get to 18 and unlock your sub job take blm for a spin and see how you like it. Just remember you don't have to commit yourself to one job. Level them all a little bit and see which ones suit you best.

Just focus on learning basic controls now, then party dynamics. Anything you have a question about check the wikia and see if you can find the answer there. And if you can't make out what that means, I'm sure someone here can clarify it for you.
