Timed Out

Hello Everyone

Recently I got a new computer and for some reason I'm getting Timed Out pretty frequently and I have no idea why.

My OS is Windows XP Media Center Edition. I had Norton Anit-Virus thing running originially, but my friends said to remove it but I'm still get Error Code: FFXI-4002 ( basically it says I'm getting Timed Out ) also it always says that my network connection is not avaliable, but that can't be true because I can still surf on the net so my connection must be there.

So I'm out of ideas and I'm wondering what's wrong.

Do you have Windows Firewall enabled? Maybe you're blocking some packets.

Hmm... update your network card drivers? Perhaps something is weird with the way it handles sockets that was fixed in a driver update.

Just curious, but I know from experience that Norton stuff is the hardest thing to remove once it's installed. There's a special program on symantec's web site to really remove it completely, so you could try downloading and running that.
Check out PCPitstop, they have full pc test you can run that'll check everything from hard drives to internet connection and tell you if there's any problems. You can check anonymously if you don't want to create a login and all that...
Of course, emptying your temp internet files and cookies, etc, might help, if you haven't already done it. Windows firewall is a pain in the ass...I would definitely recommend dumping for another one if you can, I had connection problems left and right before I disabled it.
