Re: question about battle system
it is a slower pace than other mmorpgs, but i wouldn't call it boring. when you start making skillchains and magic bursts with other party members, it is very fun.

Re: question about battle system
when you get into missions and BC fights later on the fights are anything but slow. this game has gotten me more amped during heavy fights then most other games I've played

Re: question about battle system
If FFXI suddenly became "faster", you'd see all sorts of chaos and dismay. Things already happen so fast, you have to think for each fight, and each situation, it's not about hack n slash, not 90% of the time atleast.

Re: question about battle system
Yea I agree with Balfree. I also personally find the first 10 levels most boring and so :p you can get used to it though eventually -> because theres other thingsto focus on in battles, like weapon skills(skill chains), big damage, job abilitys and what more

Re: question about battle system
If you really want a good feel for what FFXI combat plays like, go pick up and play FFXII on PS2. The combat timing is VERY similar.

Re: question about battle system
You serious? It looks the same but the actual impression you get from it is waaaaayy different. The biggest difference is caused because its offline, it goes smoother and so, its not the same

Oh, it's not exactly the same. But the timing in FFXII(12) is awfully close. At the very least, it's the closest approximation to FFXI(11)'s combat timing that you'll find, short of playing the game yourself.

The only thing to remember is that you can't override the decisions of your other party members in FFXI(11).

Re: question about battle system
If you're in an exp party repetitively fighting mobs that are kinda easy for your level I suppose it can be boring, especially if you're a melee. But if that's the case you're in the wrong party.

Obviously in parties the monotony of fighting the same mob over and over is going to soon set in, but I've always found that challenges always arise to keep you on your toes: there's suddenly a link; the mob uses a surprise uber-attack; an ally dies =( Though there are bound to be repetitive battles, every battle you will encounter will vary on some level. I've certainly had my fair share of battles were somebody says, "Well that woke us all up!"

I don't see anything boring about a battle system that allows you to customise your character in terms of their jobs; a battle system that allows you to utilise hundreds of abilities and spells; a battle system were you can create combos with other players; a battle system were you face enemies with amazing artificial intelligence; a battle system that actually requires you to think as opposed to hack, slash and grind.
