gold pass can only be used by your very first character -- no other characters created (though purchased content ids are fine). it also qualifies you for the recruit-a-friend program that rewards you with little in-game items on the 40, 100 and 365 day anniversary of you joining. cheaper (1000g), 1 use only.

regular is more expensive (depends on server load) and has 5 uses. no restrictions on characters, but no items.

If you having one person joining the game, and you know they will play the game for a while... buy a gold pass. If you need to get a few people to your server, then buy a regular worldpass.

They came out with the goldpass thing like 3 or 4 months after my wife started her account. ><

Thanks for the info. Well, sounds like I want a world pass instead of a gold pass then. By brother has his internet connection back up and running and he is going to get me a pass. I will share my pass with that other fellow that wants one to the same server as me. Thank you for your help

Thank you, that even explains the whole thing even better for me. I plan on playing the game for along time but I'm not the only person that would like to go to the Cerberus server. So I will help as many people as I can. This whole world pass thing is a pain in the you know what. Its EXTREAMLY frustrating waiting for somebody to help you out when you know that help will most likely never come. Specialy when you cant put your post for help in the general section of the forum where most people visit.

incorrect assumption. most people use the new post feature (under search) to browse the forum. this means they get all the new posts, regardless of where it's posted.

truthfully though, not many cerberus people browse this forum

True, I did assume that most people just looked under a favorite catagory or something like that. I did find a forum that is a Cerberus forum but it is VERY dead! They got a section in there for world passes and I'm the only one to post in there since its creation long ago LOL

I'm thinking about signing up for FFXI with a friend, and have like what I've seen so far. There doesn't seem to be a free trial, so we may just go ahead and jump in.

My question is this:

Since we don't want to pay extra for having more then 1 character, we want to start out on the same server from the beginning. It is my understanding that this is what the gold pass does; lets a player make their home server the one the code is assigned to (instead of just making one character at the server and keeping the home server the same).

So thus, what we should do is have me sign up, log in, get a server, farm 1000 gil and buy a gold pass, which my friend uses on startup, thus making their HOME server the same as mine, right?

correct!

or you could ask a kind soul for a regular worldpass that both of you can use when you create your characters. however, you won't get any nifty gifts like that

Alright. Sounds good. Any suggestions on a server? I was going to do it the way I mentioned just so I wouldn't worry about which server to show up on.


So if a regular worldpass makes whatever server we start on our "main" server (since it'll be applied on our first char) I may go in that direction, if I can think of a good server to choose.

yo i`m kindda confuse on how to change server. Can anyone teach me how and to tell me how to see which server i`m in as i have no idea which server i`m in

you can't change servers. once you start, you are always on that server unless you create a new character. if you create a new character, you can use a worldpass during character creation (it'll ask you for server and code, code is the worldpass).

and it tells you what server you are on each time you login. it'll say "Welcome to xxx"
