Screen Resolution vs Monitor

Hey guys

Just wondering of the top of my head at what resolution do you play FFXI on and on what size monitor?

I'm just curious is all and thought this might be a little fun ^ ^

Re: Screen Resolution vs Monitor

I play at 1280x1024, because my monitor is an LCD and that's the best resolution to view things on it.

Oh, 19inch LCD by the way.

The colors on my LCD are just fine, Raydeus. Maybe you've just had really crappy ones?

With gamma adjustment and calibration, the colors are just fine on mine.
Did you have to put the game's packaging in the pic? lol...

Oh yeah, that desk you have there is one I was so close to getting. :D

1280x1024 on a 21" CRT..

I sometimes use my 19" LCD widescreen too though.

Re: Screen Resolution vs Monitor

I like my desk better, but I do covet that widescreen LCD.

I really want one of the Apple Cinema Displays tho.

Cheap and early LCD's had colour problems, but the quality ones really are something to behold. The best test is if the device is off and the screen looks black, not greyish, then chances are it should be able to produce vibrant colours.

BTW you only should worry about resolutions on CRT's, as an LCD should be run at its native resolution for best results.

Quality LCDs can barely produce something good, but still all LCD I've seen are 24 bit color anyway (and much more expensive than a CRT with less image quality).

So, I'll keep using CRTs for a long time (soon to upgrade to a 21" one) 32-bit color displays are much better even though XI runs at 24 .

PS > (And before someone tells me the human eye can't see as many colors as 32-bit color has that doesn't mean the color quality isn't better on 32 bit displays )

My LCD has 32-bit color. Seriously, it looks really nice.

Hmm, what brand and model is it? I'm gonna upgrade soon, so might as well check it out.

Re: Screen Resolution vs Monitor

It's an HP monitor. f1903, which they don't appear to have on their site anymore. However, they do have both a f1905e, and a w19, both of which look very fancy. You can possibly find something cheaper somewhere else though, I guess.

The w19 in particular has a pretty nice price attached to it. I might have to get me one of those.

Re: Screen Resolution vs Monitor

For 24-bit color (RGB) and 32-bit color (RGBA), the max. number of color displayed should be the same (8-bit red, 8-bit green, 8-bit blue). The 8-bit alpha channel in 32 bit color format usually is used for other purposes (for blending, etc). Because those popular processor (Intel 32-bit based CPU) uses 16-byte boundary as memory address alignment, common choice for color format is 32-bit RGBA or 16-bit RGB (5.6.5).

Just my 2 gil ^^'

Re: Screen Resolution vs Monitor

Price isn't really an issue (surprisingly the CRT I'm gonna get is more expensive than those LCD ) but I would never pay for an LCD if the image/color quality is inferior to CRT.

I'll check em out at the store, maybe they will convince me to switch (although I doubt it ).

Thanks.
