Question regarding resolution and increase texture

Hey all, just had a quick question regarding resolution and increase texture via ffxi.

So my background resolution is at 1024 x 1024 and overlay graphics resolution is at 1600 x 1200 and i wasn't completely sure what else i could increase to increase the texture and graphics in-game? I have an extremely good, a high end ati. Any comments? besides drivers, sony is gay and doesn't allow company drivers for their products =( n00bs

Thanks again

Sylnc

Re: Question regarding resolution and increase texture

This thread on allakhazam has a reg editing guide. And reg editing is the only way to increase background resolution past 1024x1024

I think we have a thread on that here too, so that we don't have to forward people to Alla. Let me see if I can find it.

edit: Here it is, although it doesn't go into as much detail, I think.

Re: Question regarding resolution and increase texture

yes, you can follow the guide murphie posted if you are comfortable with editing the registry. you can also try enabling mip-mapping and setting it up higher (2-5). it makes a very big difference. It's key '0000' in the registry under the same branch where you set the background res.

If you are not comfortable mucking with the registry, there is a tool posted here called MogToolz (search) that will do that stuff for you.

Re: Question regarding resolution and increase texture

thanks for the input, sorry for not using the search function. I'm also on a laptop and the screen is partially cutout near the ends 2. Im guessing im going to have to use the registry to lengthen the screen width also?

Re: Question regarding resolution and increase texture

What is the native resolution of your laptop screen? If its a wide screen you will have to manually set the resolution with reg edit. Also in the options ingame you can set the aspect ratio.
Example* Screen resolution 1440x900
0001 H 1440
0002 H 900
Texture resolution (I would leave this as a 4:3 resolution)
0003 H 1024
0004 H 1024

Re: Question regarding resolution and increase texture

Screen resolution.
0001 H 1900
0002 H 1200

Texture resolution (try and get the screen resolution working before attainment this, and you might take a BIG performance hit with these texture resolutions)
This is the highest you can set the texture resolution
0003 H 2048
0004 H 2048

I gtg for now just reference the guide I liked to, sorry but the reg editing guide here does not have enough information.

You can download a program from http://themogtoolz.free.fr/ that can change the regestry setting for you if you don't know how to do it manually.

You set widescreen ratios in the game itself in the configure options.

Re: Question regarding resolution and increase texture

EDIT: Looking at in-game options and didn't find anything about resizing, you know possibly where to find the option for it?

Under the 2nd sets of menus, go to Options, under which there is a slide bar kind of thing where you can change the screen ratio. By default it should be showing "4:3." Change that to "16:10" for your WUXGA laptop.

And as far as the "Front Buffer," or the screen size goes, you should stay away from editing registry; just use the FFXI config tool, as it shows the available resolutions for your monitor (provided that the driver is installed correctly), and there's no chance you could mistype or edit the wrong part of the registry. Note that no matter what the native resolution is, whether it's a widescreen or "normal" 4:3 one, it still shows up in the pull-down choice in the config tool, and it's not required in any way to manually edit the registry.
