Ok I've extensively searched this forum and the internet, yet I haven't found any direct information. Here are my questions: 1) How powerful are redmage enchantments? 2) Can you enchant other people's weapons?(Other than swords) 3) Are they useful within parties? 4) Are they in high demand or low demand in parties? 5) Does the weather affect elemental performance?(Will my fire sword be more powerful in cold areas?) Aside from those: 1) Are there lots of elemental monsters? 2) Do the various types of monsters have weaknesses against elements?(Like are Orcs weak against fire?) 3) Is it easy to spot those weaknesses(if they exist)? |

| Junior Member | 1) How powerful are redmage enchantments? Fairly decent. It's a pretty nice bonus if you're a RM, but you won't cry yourself to sleep if you're not. 2) Can you enchant other people's weapons?(Other than swords) Nope. 3) Are they useful within parties? Very. They have such a wide range of abilities, the addition of a RM makes everything easier. They're also the best as weakening magics now ^^ 4) Are they in high demand or low demand in parties? Moderate, depending on skill. They're not required, like a whm or a warrior job, but once you get the required classes, they're a very solid choice. I believe most groups will take a RM for 2nd healer over another whm. 5) Does the weather affect elemental performance?(Will my fire sword be more powerful in cold areas?) Sorta. It depends on what the mobs in that area are weak to. Aside from those: 1) Are there lots of elemental monsters? There are some semi-rare pure elementals, but melee does almost nothing to them. Dunno how the elemental imbue on a weapon would do. That said, almost all monsters are weak to something. 2) Do the various types of monsters have weaknesses against elements?(Like are Orcs weak against fire?) Yes, although I don't remember them offhand. (I'm lazy.) 3) Is it easy to spot those weaknesses(if they exist)? The easy way is to use the guide.. which is.. somewhere. Dunno, could probably find it if I searched for it. |

My version of your answers ![]() --- Here are my questions: 1) How powerful are redmage enchantments? Not very powerful. Each hit will add about 5 more HP damage than usual. 2) Can you enchant other people's weapons?(Other than swords) Nope. (Type of weapon does not matter) 3) Are they useful within parties? Well, they can be quite useful because they can heal and can use attack magic to MB. So they act as the backup white or black mage.4) Are they in high demand or low demand in parties? I'd say from a score of 1 to 10 I'll give red mage a 4. Red mage is not required in a PT. Most of the time they're picked because the PT leader can not find an extra white/black/bard to fill the final mage spot... 5) Does the weather affect elemental performance?(Will my fire sword be more powerful in cold areas?) Yes, but the effect is minimal. It is also affected by the day of the week as well. Aside from those: 1) Are there lots of elemental monsters? Not a lot, but you meet them often enough to notice them. Not that you'd like to fight them though (unless your level is a lot greater than them) 2) Do the various types of monsters have weaknesses against elements?(Like are Orcs weak against fire?) Orcs resist fire But yeah, most enemies have a weakness. I posted a web site about enemy weaknesses before...3) Is it easy to spot those weaknesses(if they exist)? If you look hard enough you can spot them. More than likely you'll notice an enemy resisting an element rather than its weakness... |

Woah... the enchantments are THAT crappy? So what's the point of being a redmage?!? I thought I'd get a cool animation and a nice extra boost in HP damage. I want to be a redmage only for the semi-ok curing and enchantments. I could care less about the blackmage magic. I thought mixing magic and sword would do some nice damage... the only catch would be finding a weakness for a specific monster. 5 HP isn't something to brag about when looking for a party so... I'm not sure anymore. If I'm lvl 50 DRK and have lvl 25 RDM, would my extra DRK strength do much? Enchantments use very little MP (I seen em' for like ~12MP a peice) so I can do them many times without worrying much. However, if I only gain 5HP extra damage.. that won't build up. Maybe 50 would be good, but 100 extra would be a lot better. Why so much hate towards redmages square!? |

You wouldn't want to sub red. It seems to be a very weak sub job compared to other options. The damage add effect only adds 4-7 damage per hit. However, when I had it (thanks fortune ram!) my 1hd damage was about 14-18 per hit. So, while it's not a large number, it's still about a 30% increase. |
