Question Has anyone heard when the next level cap is coming?

I was wondering, if anyone has heard when the level cap for 80 is going to to be released. Right now I'm guessing it will come with the expansion pack in September. So I was wondering if someone has heard anything to confirm if this is true. I'm no where close to 75 yet, but I'm hoping it stays till Dec. so I can catch up with the Japanese players and NA players with more free time than me.

P.S. I can't remember when did the level 75 cap come?

The recent addition of Merit Points seems to indicate that no level cap increase will occur with CoP or anytime in the near future.

Don't think the Merit Points system really indicates that. At most it's another system to boost your stats when you reach lv. 75 and possibly above (After all adding the comment that the bonuses from the merit points changing depending on level). Other then that there isn't anything in the addition of the system saying that lv. 75 is as far as it'll go, at most it just says at lv. 75 you'll be able to improve yourself more before continuing on to higher levels.

I agree that a level cap increase seems unlikely. First, having subs that are level 40 wouild start to unbalance the game (thinking particularly of rdm here) and the further you go past 40 the bigger the imbalance is. Secondly, the merit point system is just one way to 'build' your character past the level cap.. and it wouldn't surprise me if they did more things like this instead. I'd rather there be ways to build up your character that don't involve mindless killing for 20+ hours.

Umm, you still have to do killing to gain the merit points. Also as far as lv. 40 abilities since many of those are quite defining to the job they could be restricted to job only much like the 2hrs are. Re-establishing a good balance past lv. 75 still looks reasonable to me. However getting in more that better fills in jobs that is quite apparent haven't gotten all their stuff yet, seems better.

That's most likely what they'll be doing more of now but a final cap at lv. 75 seems unlikely to me.

Didn't they already come out and say that CoP would absolutely not bring a level cap raise?

You guys seem stuck in thinking that abilities MUST work the same as a sub or as main when clearly, SE has gimped abilities as a sub:

Examples

Thf: Trick does not give a multiplyer dmg boost as a sub.
Brd: Limitation on using Instruments and songs you may sing.

There is NOTHING preventing SE from forbidding abilities like Convert or spells like -Aga and Refresh Spells or traits if they were to raise the level cap. They can do this and most likely will have to when the level cap gets raised to 80 and beyond.

And with Merit points (I think it is like 150K to get the 50 hp or mp), I dont think they plan to raise it any time soon.

yes they did. and many ppl here, if not most, seem to be unwilling to believe that for some reason.

so, nobody can confirm anything as to when the next cap raising, if any, will be. period. this topic has been covered numerous times, and i don't understand why ppl still say lvl cap will be raised w/ the next expansion based on nothing but their guess or hope.

if u still don't believe this, search for the news on the web; i was only able to find the Japanese news, but this one clearly states that cap raising won't happen w/ the expansion;

Nice to see someone that agrees with me. Good job on expanding on the point trying to be made. My post wasn't saying that they are or are not going to raise in the next expansion it was simply stating that lv. 75 isn't the maximum it's going to be, just because the Merit Points was implemented that does not mean the levels stop at 75.

Also as far as I can tell with the links and such is they just are saying that the expansion doesn't raise the cap. Nothing saying that a month after or so that they will not raise it.

Hiromichi Tanaka, Producer of FFXI, made it clear in an interview w/ Weekly Famitsu, that they won't raise the lvl cap unless the then-current circumstance absolutely grants such being done. further, s-e is taking this stance that there'll be no more of "vertical" enhancement of characters, which include lvl raising, but enhancing characters will be done w/ "lateral" means, and one of which is obviously merit points system.

no, he did NOT say that there won't be any more lvl cap raising ever, but having actually read the interview, it won't happen in a way u r expecting to see.
