I only played FFXI under a 30 day trial and never got any higher than level 12 on one server then deleted to be level 9 on another I do plan on playing the game again one day. I have read the only way to get Artifact Armor is to go through quests for each artifact i.e hat, body, shoes and etc My questions are

1. Do I have to be a certian level to do the quests for each piece

2. Does each piece require a certian level in order to equip them

3. Would I need a party or could I solo for each artifact armor

4. Does a monster drop the artifact piece? if so is it up for grabs kind of thing or does each person get the artifact piece

1. you need to be a certain lvl to wear the certain item. as to obtaining them, you can be any level to get them. most people get the af items a lvl or 2 before they can wear it.


2. yes each one does need a certain lvl to equip them. the weapon is early 40's. then its lvl 52, 54 ,56, 58, 60. well for drk it is atleast


3. yes you will need help. how many depends on what lvl you have helping you. but some af you really need an alliance.



4. alot of them are coffers. but some mobs everyone the same job can get the certain item. just last night another drk an i both got our head gear

Thank you so much for answering quickly and most of all helpfully . I was mainly wondering number 4 because I don't want to be in a situation where I am doing an Artifact quest and wind up walking a way without the artifact armor piece.

sadly that is what will happen if you are coffer key hunting. usually its a part of 6 all who need it, an you might be one of the few unlucky ones, when you cast lot, an dont get it. but having a great ls you can avoid this prob cause all are helpful.

This WILL happen to you when you play FFXI. Coffer keys are hours, days, maybe even weeks of hunting for a key + chest with no success.

Also for the non-coffer key items you need to kill particuarly nasty monsters. You may well find that your party, or even a whole alliance of 18, gets wipped out by them and you get nothing.

There is always the opportunity for you to get nothing in FFXI and the getting nothing always takes a long time.

After getting the answers you both supplied me with I was going to ask about coffer keys and coffers. But I did some reading off of allakhazam about a coffer on a white mage's pantaloons and that gave me a good idea of what coffer and coffer keys are about.

You're weapon you get the quest at level 40. The quests for the armour start at level 50.

They're equipable at levels 52, 54, 56, 58 and 60. Which piece you get for what level depends on the job.

As you've seen some are from coffers, the others are quested. Most parties will be kind enough to let you have the coffer key if it drops while you're levelling and you need it for AF. Finding the coffer without someone else nabbing it first is a different matter.
